I wanted to know if there was a way I could tweak my work so that on the tasks tab of the manager it shows that I am only running one project at a time. (as it is, it runs 2 simultaneously). And then to start the next one on the list when it is done and reported. As it is, my pc is so slow I can't even open a webpage. :( And could you email me any answers? Unless I leave this window open and refresh the window, I won't know if I got a response. | |

Unless I leave this window open and refresh the window, I won't know if I got a response. 1) You can subscribe to a thread, and then you get an email to say there is a response. 2) We don't know your email 3) Posting email addresses online is an invitation to receive many SPAM emails. You can certainly change your preferences to use only one CPU, or you can suspend processing entirely when you are active on the keyboard. However, it is more likely that you are short of RAM and this causes paging. 1) If you have a GPU (graphics processing unit) that is doing some of the work, make **certain** that you disable it while you are using the keyboard. All of the options are available either on this web site->your account->Computing Preferences. Suspend work while computer is in use? yes (to disallow computer usage when you are using the keyboard or mouse). Suspend GPU work while computer is in use? Enforced by version 6.7+ yes (to suspend the GPU) On multiprocessors, use at most 1 processors On multiprocessors, use at most Enforced by version 6.1+ 50 % of the processors (one of these two to set your max number of CPUs depending on BOINC version). These settings are also available per computer in BOINC Manager on the advanced view -> Advanced menu -> Prefersnces -> Processor Usage tab. also note that since we cant see your computer online we can't tell whats happening or how to help. Seti shouldn't interfere with normal operations. GPU WU's will check JM7's advice with that. The only other possibility I can think of is that you have a malware on your PC if you have a PC | |

I have 1 gig of ram. I have always been subscribed to threads I've posted in, and have yet to receive any emails when an answer is posted. So I have to keep the window open and refresh it every once in a while to see if anyone's posted anything. I tweaked my preferences as per your suggestions and will see if this helps. Fortunately my pc, isn't infected. It just seems slow. | |

Make sure the notifications in your account Community preferences is set to receive mail. You may also want to double check that your account has the correct email address (check the spelling). | |

I have 1 gig of ram. On your ATI videocard, which isn't used on this project unless you manually installed the optimized application for using it on Astropulse tasks in the CPU/GPU hybrid application. Which according to your list of tasks haven't done, so moot to follow up on. :-) According to your system details you have 2 gigabytes of RAM, minus a bit used by the OS (2046.82 MB). Your PC is faster than mine (I have only got a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz with HT), so it should do all this without much problems. But if it's really slow on two cores, then the question becomes whether you have ever opened it up to check for dirt, grease and dust inside? You'd be surprised about the amount of filth inside a closed case after running it for a year, especially when you also have pets and/or smoke. How do I unhide my computer's details? I didn't see an option to do this on computing, community, or SETI preferences. I have the correct email listed and it's checked to receive any when I get a response to a thread I'm on. Did you see the hint below the preference? "Make sure your spam filter accepts this address." How do I unhide my computer's details? I didn't see an option to do this on computing, community, or SETI preferences. The entry is directly beneath the one for receiving emails in your SETI@home preferences: Is it OK for SETI@home and your team (if any) to email you? yes but you obviously have enabled it, or else Ageless wouldn't have been able to know the details of your computer. :-)Emails will be sent from setiweb@ssl.berkeley.edu; make sure your spam filter accepts this address. Everything that has been checked and/or marked to allow me to receive emails has been done. Time and again. And yet when I go to look for responses, I have to keep this window open. So I'm having to always re-check them as yes. (It's not saving that part of my preference, for some reason) | |

Main problem is how do I get just one task running at a time. As it is, I run 2 automatically. If I could eliminate the second one, I'm hoping this would help. Are you sure you hit the Update button on the preference page after editing the settings? Merely filling in the form doesn't do anything—until it's submitted. (Sorry if this seems obvious, but I can’t think why your settings won’t ‘take’.) | |

An odd thing to note: When I go to update my preferences, the boxes and radio buttons are back to the default position of not allowing email to come through. So I'm having to always re-check them as yes. (It's not saving that part of my preference, for some reason) This could also be a cause. If you updated the project and cleared your local preferences, but your latest preferences for the CPU will still not take, as they're reverting back to their original settings, just as happens to you on the project preferences page... What browser do you use? Is it using a plug-in to block scripts? (like Noscript) Are scripts on berkeley.edu allowed to execute? (In the case of Noscript: The S in the browser's right lower corner will show with a red rim and a strike through it. Try right-clicking the S and Allow berkeley.edu, then try making changes again on the page). Of course, if it still doesn't work, you could use the local advanced preferences to set your multiprocessor usage.
