In celebration of our wedding anniversary, Eric and I drove down to Monterey and enjoyed a short vacation.

You really otter visit Monterey!

Jonathan Livingston here got wind of the news that I feed raccoons and was hoping that I would generalize that behavior to seagulls. (I did.)

Gratuitous pelican shot...

A curious sea lion checks us out!

Eric says, "Hey! That's no 400 pound sea mammal; that's my wife!!!"

Eric took me hiking through what simply had to be a Poison Oak Preserve. What a guy!

Fossiliferous shale at a beach in Capitola...

Here is a shot of Eric searching for fossils. Look up honey - you married one!!!

Actually, there is quite a lot to be said for a husband who goes to the beach and shows more interest in the rocks there than in the bikini clad co-eds!

At the Monterey Bay Aquarium we learned that male seahorses with big pouchy pot-bellies are more attractive to females. Here is a picture of Eric wishing he were a seahorse...

Back home! Spawnie was saddened to hear that we spent a day at an aquarium, yet somehow did not manage to bring him back a "souvenir"!

Nice Pics Angela, I guess that means the trip got the Seal of Approval. ;)

My Mother(the Wall Flower) hated trips, She went along only cause Dad had all of the Money and the car too. But I have all 1400 or so of His Slides. :D

Oh and as to fossils, I sometimes joked with My Mom that She was older than the Dinosaurs, But She knew I cared and didn't really mean It(I made sure She knew).

I love fossil hunting on the shore. I dug a complete nautilus fossil out of some volcanic rock in the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Looks like you kids had a great time.

It is always good to get away for awhile. Good to have you back, tho. :D

Great pics Angela. I wanted to say that it looks like you had a "whale" of a time, but I know that will get me in big trouble, so I won't ;)

Awesome pics, Angela! Sort of makes those of us who are still semi-snowbound jealous!
And that's one of the clearest photos of the Loch Ness Pelican I've ever seen!

Angela, when did Spawnie move in?

I know... I know... like we needed another cat!

Spawnie is a stray we have been feeding for over a year. We did not know he was tame until last December. He has similar markings to a grumpy old feral tom cat we have been feeding for years - Jordan White Paws. When Spawnie showed up, we assumed he was feral as well and probably the offspring of Jordan. Hence we started referring to him as "Spawn of Jordan" or "Spawnie" for short. Turns out we were wrong on both counts. Spawnie turned out to be a very tame stray kitty and he is definitely not related to Jordan W.P.

Anyway, for about a year Spawnie showed up in our backyard every few days looking for food. He never came near us or gave us so much as a second look until one day last December when I was sitting down on our back step. Spawnie cautiously came up to me and sniffed the back of my hand.

I promptly went inside and did an obnoxious victory dance. I then proceeded to crow all night long about this "development" so that the next day, naturally, Eric felt obligated to one-up me. Eric sat down on the back step and softly called to Spawnie. As if on cue, Spawnie trotted right up to Eric and let Eric pet him. The next day Spawnie jumped into Eric's lap.

It turns out that Spawnie is definitely NOT a feral cat! Also, he never met a lap he didn't like. We now assume he either has a terribly neglectful owner somewhere in the neighborhood, is somebody's lost pet, or is somebody's abandoned pet.

We got W.C. much the same way we got Spawnie. One of our neighbors had a boyfriend who moved in with two kittens. The boyfriend became history and moved out. He left the cats who had outgrown their cuddly kitten-ness. The girlfriend pretty much felt these were not her cats and so she didn't love them at all or feed them with regularity. One cat became road pizza, the other one found us. But, I digress...

Anyway, since December we have had Spawnie wormed and vaccinated. We give him flea medication monthly. He was already neutered, so somebody must have loved him once. We had him bathed at the vet, he has his own special brush, he is more than amply fed and he has his own fuzzy basket outside on our covered back deck. Our vet discovered that Spawnie is testing positive for feline HIV, which it seems could either mean that he has the disease, or simply that he was vaccinated for it as a kitten and may falsely test positive for it for some time. We hope it is the latter, but just in case it is the former we are not letting him inside to "play" with W.C. and Stinky Lou.

So that is the story of Spawnie. Sometimes you pick the cat. Sometimes the cat picks you!

What is the feeling about Spawnie with regards to the Racoon family?

Spawnie and our current two regular visitors (Interloper Mama and Tweedle Dee - I.M. never managed to cut the apron strings for that one! He is such a Mama's Boy!!!) co-exist beautifully. If the raccoons come near Spawnie he moves away, but not far. The raccoons will rifle Spawnie's basket for food, but once they are convinced that there is no food there they move away and Spawnie just gets right back into his basket and sleeps for the rest of the night.

Hopefully when You retest "Spawnie"(before next winter) He'll not have feline HIV, As He seems like He needs someone to care for Him again, As He may in this economy be an abandoned pet, At least He was outside, I've heard of dogs left to starve. I'm still on track for(Consults My "Extended Shopping List") July for a Cat. :D

OMG Ozz!!! Great minds think alike!!! You know, I actually thought about that before I posted the bathing suit shot, but against my better judgment I decided to include that particular picture in the montage because I thought I had a funny caption for it. No point in hiding it now. No doubt Misfit has already archived it, since he was the first viewer to post on this thread.

Now I have poster's regret...

Don't feel regret. I know girls who've paid good money to get cleavage like that. Considered it myself, many years ago.
