Hmmmm. Interesting as an exercise in demonstrating just what you can put in a desktop case & what contributes to its number crunching ability. Rather than seeing it on Youtube, I would be interested in reading a detailed description of this project

Nice work Robert, but I would really like to see it crunching numbers even before you get it finally (do you ever) updated. I'm only running a Core i7 920 and I'm still piling up more pending credit than can be verified (Seti@home)...so how do you BIG guys get you're credits verified ? Btw a warning...tried MilkyWay on my Ati GPU today...a big bang in about 20 seconds...the fans didn't even react ? so...back tomorrow with a better one :) Please keep us informed how the project goes on... and greetings to all from Finland !

Credits are only verified when your quorum partner returns their copy of the same workunit so that the results can be compared. If you are significantly faster than every partner you are paired up with, you will consistently have a higher pending than everyone else.

Hey Manka,

I will keep all of you guys updated by videos and pictures the next week but right now I´m not in Berlin. I´m in Zagreb till March 15th again and visit Uwe (good friend) who shoots "Bloodrayne 3" here. After that I will leave for US and HongKong and I will probably back in Berlin Sunday 28th this month. Could be a few days earlier but dont know right now. The "project" will be probably finished when I´m back in Berlin. Then I will install the 5580 Xeon´s and the Fermi Tesla´s. Looks good so far that I have them when I´m back. Thanks again from this site to Nvidia who supported me right from the start. If some of you have questions regarding tech, software etc pp just ask me by mail, cause I wont be able to look so often into the Forum until I´m back. So here´s my email: robhessland@gmail.com

Best wishes from Zagreb - Croatia

Rob

Yes Ozz I know...but just wondered how the REAL crunchrer's get their things trough... how much of pending credit do they have...sorry a little bit of the topic...but it would be nice to know. And Robert I'll ask you for some information about those CPU coolers when you get back...take it easy and enjoy...very easy to say with a blown graphic card and the main computer down...(climbing walls)

The same way the rest of us do.

how much of pending credit do they have...

Depends on many different factors. Needless to say, it's usually lots. There was a thread dedicated to pending credits in the Number Crunching forum where you can find all sorts of figures relating to the high-end cruncher's output of work.

Why not move the computer into your refrigerator!!

It'll cut the noise down significantly & you probably wouldn't even need any fans :)

Well that aint a desktop case with hotswap fan's :P
Dont think Supermicro makes "desktop" cases.

Well that running seti would not do to mutch :P
A Tesla c1060 is the same as a GTX280 (not a 260/275 its got 512-bit mem) with 4Gb of ram.
And i seen peeps with 4 or 5 GTX295's that makes toast out of this.
And yeah took my GPU's off seti since i cant get enough work to keep going.
Just CPU's now.
And damn that pc is quiet.
I got a 25U server rack from APC here with 5x4U servers with
2 3000 RPM 12x38 Ultra kaze's from Scyte that blow 266CFM of air inside.
2 8CM 2900RPM and another 12CM kaze to suck the air out.
Oh and that 5 times. its like a vacuim cleaner without a hose.

And yeah i love the noise it makes, its in the bedroom :P
Oh and i got an A/C blowing to it from the front :P

And just drop them GPU's on Collatz Sutaru, thats what i did :P

You cant compare a 295 with a Tesla, I think you know the reason. And that a 295 makes a toast out of the Tesla is more than a rumor. Work with Maya or 3D Max (what I do) and use a Tesla. It whipes the floor with the 295. Thats a fact. ;) Greetings from Hong Kong.

So put them to work then,
All i see is talk about somthing u payed lotsa money for but no results.
And the fact is your tesla card is a 240 shader 32 rops 512Bit GTX280 with 4Gb.
Slow one to with 600Mhz core en 1300Mhz shaders :P

It does about 933 GFLOPS single precision and 78 GFLOPS in double precision.
My HemlockXT 5970 does 4640 GFLOPS and 928 GFLOPS in double precision.

Oh i use Newtec's Lightwave and 3SDmax.
Moost renderfarms i have been in use CPU's btw, since double precision is slow.
My i920's do about 90 GLOPS DP.

Using Cuda a GTX285 is faster then a c1060.
Want to use 3dsmax u shoulda bought a Quadro like my FX4800 :P

But thats okey your the big man with the expensive stuff, u know everything :P
Oh btw your CPU coolers are on the wrong way,or your airflow is from back to front who knows.

Good job Mr Hessland

Looking forward to seeing your result after the upgrades are complete.

(to [DPC]NGS~Warmonge )

GTX 280 = toy

Tesla c1060 = tool

I saw nothing in the above thread that suggested to me that Robert 'thought he knew everything'
sounds like to me that someone is a little jealous

With all that " superior equipment" why do you have only slightly more rac than I ?

My 'supercomputer' is: 'On the way back to the top 10 hosts! ;-)'

:o)
