I just upgraded from 4.13 to 4.50 today. I haven't really noticed much of a difference so far - both versions run smoothly on my machine. Anyone else using 4.50?

It's funny, that boinc autoupdates the cruncher code, which seems pretty stable across projects, but does not update the CC when seems to change every few days...

I am now. Love the new interface, the suspend WU and Project options work (also from BOINC View) no disk info in the interface yet looking forward to it.

I have not tried it with the BOINC_CLI installed as a service yet, I will later today.

@ROM, Will the BOINC Manager work across different computers in a later version

I have just tried the BOINC_CLI.exe as a NT service the new manager talks to it, but you cannot override the prefs for network access and running, and the screen saver still does not communicate with the CLI client.

Other than that it seems to work OK (no errors at this stage), nice job to all the DEV's involved.

Just noticed that the display graphics command does not work in the Boinc Manager client is this not implimented as yet or a bug.

The new version that we are testing on alpha fails to run benchmarks on my windows 98 system. So I can not recommend that you try it. The astropulse app also has some problems and is not ready for release yet.

Edit: To AZwoody: The core client was never intended to be self updating, only the apps.

4.50 has been stable on my machine for 12 hours - runs just as smoothly as 4.13. Hoping to see some improvements on the server side and faster processing of WUs. I was hoping 4.50 would process WUs faster on my dual processing P4 HT, but I haven't seen or noticed any increase there.

Only running on two of six machines (a NT4 box and XP pro) at this stage. I am not part of the alpha project so no AP data is running on these machines.

@ DEV's will the install program install BOINC as a NT service when 4.50 goes public.

I know - but it's ironic! (I was in the beta over a year ago)

Hi

Running fine so far, but it seems that the graphic limitations didnt work.
Set the vertical graphics to 0 but scrolls again like there was no limitation.

Running 4.50 GUI on weakest box. Win98 PII 333MHZ.
Graphics problem but solved with reboot. Don't see suspend anywhere as in XP or 2000.
Stable so far. Win98 waits patient for next build.

I upgraded my machines today to 4.50. Everything worked fine. Then I noticed the new Boinc Manager. After playing with it for a bit with the gui running, I decided to switch to the Boinc_cli. I believe I remember reading somewhere that eventually the Boinc manager would just use the boinc_cli to run. Again everything went great.

After playing with the manager for a few minutes, I got the following error.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

Program C:\program files\boincmgr.exe

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application support team for more info.

It only happened when I was switching tabs repeatedly, and happened on two of my machines.

All of my machines are running Windows XP SP2.

The Boinc_cli has continued working with no problems and the manager will restart no problems, but I thought I would report this.

This is an alpha-release, and as stated in the alpha-release-notes not everything is yet implemented in the new separate gui. These things will be added later, and more alpha-versions released for the alpha-team to test & report bugs.

Please please please do not download an alpha version unless you are an alpha tester or you were asked to.

Alpha versions are NOT stable. They are NOT meant for general public use. That is why they are alpha versions.

Note to alpha testers: Might be a good idea not to publicize where the alpha versions are so you don't create a stampede of people rushing to get the latest thing.

Turns out the benchmarks don't get run because boinc is unable to suspend the astropulse app. When the app finishes crunching [on my machine it takes 3 hours], the unit comp errors out and the benchmarks finish running.
