Are you running Optimised Apps?

Optimized apps do not have the screen saver graphics functionality.

I'm having the same problem. I don't know what the problem is, but as far as I know I have not altered any settings. I'm an old fart and don't know about optimized apps, so maybe something changed without my knowledge.

Can somebody advise me as to my next step?

P.S. Astropulse graphics show up, Seti@home don't.

Apart from Astropulse also being Seti@Home, I suspect you mean you don't see the graphics or screen saver for Seti_Enhanced? That's because you run these on your Nvidia Graphics Processing Unit. It can't and do the calculations and show the graphics at the same time, as the part of the GPU that shows the 3D/OpenGL graphics is being completely used by doing the calculations.

This is why the CUDA application doesn't even come with a graphics application, it would be useless.

so is there any way to change this? I have 4 processors on my CPU. When I started using this computer a year ago it did show the graphics and it ran 4 projects at once. Now I see only 1 running and 3 listed as "ready to start".

Or is it more advantageous to run just one at a time and use the graphics card to help out?

First update your BOINC to 6.10.36. BOINC 6.4.7 is quite old at this time and won't be able to use the preferences from the Project preferences page.

After you updated BOINC to 6.10.36, go to the link I gave above, edit the preferences with the link at the bottom.

Next change the lines for the CPU and GPU use so they show like this:

Use CPU
(enforced by 6.10+ clients) yes

Use NVIDIA GPU if present
(enforced by 6.10+ clients) no

Make sure to save the changes with the button at the bottom of the page.
next thing is to Update BOINC so it also knows about these changes. Do so by opening BOINC Manager, going to Advanced view (if you haven't already), Projects tab, select Seti, click the Update button.

This will download those new preferences, disable the Nvidia GPU and only use the CPU in your system. Do know that any work you still have for the Nvidia GPU will stay on your system until it times out or you abort it. The Nvidia work can be recognized by its application version number, this being 6.08 for the stock CUDA app. on your system. The CPU application version is 6.03

When you open BOINC Manager, go to Advanced view, Tasks tab, select to Show all tasks (new button here), you can see in the application column which version numbers are assigned to your tasks. You can multi-select tasks to abort them.

Of course, if you want to do all that work first, as it's on your system anyway, just set the Seti project to No New Tasks. BOINC Manager->Projects tab->Select Seti->Click No new tasks. The button will change to Allow new tasks.

After you have run all the work, uploaded and reported it, change the preferences as detailed above. Then select Seti and click the Allow new tasks button. This will free BOINC and it will ask for work again.

Jord, I agree about updating his Boinc version, but there's one thing you may have overlooked in your explanation about disabling the GPU. His GPU is processing more work then his system would using only the idle cores and there's always a chance he could pick up extra Astropulse work for the CPU. Personally, I would suggest to attach an additional project if he also wants to keep the CPU cores actively crunching.

P.S. He did have CPDN at one time although a different project would probably be better. The above presupposes he's not that interested in seeing the graphics.

I wrote that whole explanation assuming he wanted to see graphics or use the screen saver. Even attaching to another project, with a screen saver, will give problems as the GPU is then still being used to crunch Seti tasks. The GPU itself just can't do both at the same time without eventually giving errors to tasks.

Thanks! That got it! I enjoy looking at the graphics when not working on my computer. (I also have this on my computer at school. It is not uncommon for the screen saver to come on while my students work and for the image to be projected onto our Promethean Board. The kids find it fascinating.

Thanks again!

Hi, add a second (Not Used for CUDA), graphics-card, which you can use to watch graphics.
You can set this in a cc_config.xml file.
