I wonder about the new screensaver in the windows version of the BOINC SETI@home. It's animated full screen 3D version of the old graphics. Doesn't this take too much CPU tims? (However, it's nice to watch :-)

It's a pretty basic 3d animation, and if you've got some form of GPU - however, if you don't have some form of hardware 3d accelleration in your computer, you might suffer a loss of some cpu cycles that could be going to seti@home. If you're concerned, just set your screensaver to blank :)

indeed, if you have a half-decent graphics accellerator, it uses next-to-nothing of your cpu time.

And if you set your screensaver CPU percentages properly in your profile pages, you can really limit how much goes to it.

I've got it at 0.1%, and so long as your computer has a good hardware graphics card (I've got a Radeon), it works perfectly fine even with that little. On my other comp with intel extreme integrated graphics, it has some stuttering problems, but that's to be expected with such a wimpy excuse for a GPU.
