Granted the server seems to be getting a lot of hits, but the question is why the server isn't able to reply to queries. If the server is getting more queries than it can reply to, then some (or many) of them will go unanswered. ____________ Grant Darwin NT.

[quote]I am getting a strange message My running stdoutdae.txt file goes back to Nov 1, 2009. It contains that "(no headers, no data)" message once on Nov 2, a few times on Nov 25th, and then not again until Feb 21st. Now it is happening maybe 50% of the time, every day. Martin

Strange thing occured on my PC. All of the sudden Seti Beta changed into Seti but the URL stayed the same (setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta). I had to reset Beta and lost all my Beta WU's because of that. Now everything is OK though. Did anyone else ever experience this?

[quote]I am getting a strange message Hi Martin, Since approx. an hour ago I'm getting these messages as well (and therefore fail to report work). It has now been happening for approx. 20 successive tries to report work. Strange thing is that the Cricket graphs don't show any excessive traffic. I'm just hoping it will disappear as suddenly as it showed up :-) [edit]On closer scrutiny it appears that inbound traffic is higher than I thought. The y-axis of the graph starts at 10 MBit instead of the usual 0, so inbound is approx. 11 MBits/sec, which is quite high. I expect the 'no header' messages will disappear as soon as inbound traffic goes down.[/edit] Regards, John.

Since approx. an hour ago I'm getting these messages as well (and therefore fail to report work). It has now been happening for approx. 20 successive tries to report work. Something must've "hit the wall" somewhere. My last update was successful just a few minutes ago. I did have a couple failures today, but nothing like what you experienced. Hang in there - the completed work should get through soon enough. Martin

[snip] Except for the above line (which is normal for a resumed download...) all the above is what I mentioned yesterday! (AND is still occuring...) (wouldn't it be better if people actually read the thread B4 posting?) ;-) ____________ .

It's usually best to let BOINC call the servers when it's ready.

The update button doesn't work on the account page, Now I click It and the screen goes White when I try to change to a different icon. Someone might want to fix this and look at the other functions there as more may be damaged.

I guess Matt hasn't had time to post updates. Part of the fix to the hack were changes to security settings for just about everything. That's probably what's messing up avatar changes. I'll let him know.

But *nix doesn't get hacked! Surely it must have been a Windows machine that caused all the problems...

But *nix doesn't get hacked! Surely it must have been a Windows machine that caused all the problems... Good one there OzzFan :) UNIX *is* a hack. It evolved from a quick-and-dirty lab experiment that got loose, and security was never designed into it from the ground up. The same holds for the more popular UNIX staples like NFS: hack upon hack and no security to speak of under the hood. Compared to other OSes Unices are comparatively easy to compromise if one has access to a system login or if one can remotely convince a daemon to spawn a shell. UNIX is not the best OS out there, it is merely one of the less horrible ones. Flamesuit : I'm UNIX admin by trade. ____________ The Poopsmith speaketh
