Hi! I'd like to know where I can get more info about other computing projects associated with Boinc. So far I have subscribed SETI and LHC (the latter has no work at the moment) and I was considering the possibility of joining 2 or 3 other projects. Of course, you always like to know what it is that you are helping with... Thanks. |

Try Choosing BOINC projects at the BOINC homepage. If you hover the mouse cursor over each project name, a short description pops up. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |

BOINC FAQ has a relatively up to date BOINC project list I hope so, as I just deleted all dead projects. |

If you’re interested in astronomy and physics, the biggest production project in terms of user-base—and one of the most reliable for uptime &c.—is Einstein@Home, which is searching for gravity waves and pulsars. It also has a nice screen-saver. |

Thank you all. Now I can make my CPU set itself on fire! :-) Another topic: Can I download the boinc application again and get the original version, i.e., in english? The version I have is a mix of english and portuguese but there seems to be a problem with accented characters and it's a tad bit annoying. I'm asking this because I probably have to format my hard drives and reinstall everything in a near future. |

You can download BOINC from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php. It doesn't come in other languages than English, but you can set the language you want to show in BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Options->General->Language. A restart of BOINC is needed to set the new language. |

Thank you all. Now I can make my CPU set itself on fire! :-) When it is time to stop for the format, do the following: 1) Stop BOINC 2) Backup the BOINC data directory tree. (If you have not found client_state.xml, you have not found the data directory. Note that one of the directories in the path is hidden on the default path. The data directory is listed as one of the first messages on a restart of BOINC. 3) Do the format. 4) Restore the BOINC data directory. 5) Install BOINC. Make certain to specify the BOINC data directory as the location that you restored the data directory to. BOINC WIKI |

Let me see if I got this straight: I found the directory ProgramData\BOINC, in which there is a file named client_state.xml among others. This should be the BOINC data directory tree. Right? All I have to do then is to backup the directory and all its contents, format, reinstall OS's and if I copy it back to ProgramData, I theoretically don't have to worry about anything else after downloading the Boinc application again... About the language problem, its solved. I selected English and now it's much better. Anyway, I was trying to upload a screenshot of the application as it was before to show how it looks like - someone should fix it (by adding escape sequences to the code, I guess) but how do I upload an image from my computer? |

but how do I upload an image from my computer? The forums here don't have that capability, so you have to use an external site such as Photobucket, then link to it through there. Also, preferably, not always post it as a picture. A link to the picture is better, just in case you prefer to see things in 2096x1536. ;-) |

Ok, so here it is: That's why I'd rather see it in a foreign language (for me) than my own. You don't have to know portuguese to see something's not quite right. I'm given to understand that the program is open source but won't dare make any changes, however if anyone is interrested in correcting the text display, I'd be happy to give a hand in any way I can. |

Include the contents of all subdirectories of the directory you found, and you have it. BOINC WIKI |
