I'm spreading the love, that is, adding boinc and SETI to some servers of various windows server versions.. A common problem seems to be that the project just doesnt want to initiate. Sometimes it just works and its all good, other times I get errors like the ones below for days or longer. Some systems just wont initialize, yet any other project, WCG, Spinhedge, docking, etc will all work. Would love to get SETI going on all these IDLE boxes!!! Here are some of the error messages:

2/11/2010 8:11:06 AM SETI@home Temporarily failed download of setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe: HTTP error
2/11/2010 8:11:06 AM SETI@home Backing off 1 min 0 sec on download of setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe
2/11/2010 8:11:06 AM SETI@home Temporarily failed download of setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe: HTTP error
2/11/2010 8:11:06 AM SETI@home Backing off 1 min 0 sec on download of setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe
2/11/2010 8:11:08 AM Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Any help appreciated!
Thanks

You could try HTTP 1.0, see here. Although the description is of another HTTP error, it might help in your case (it did for me).

First and foremost you must make sure you have permission to install SETI onto those servers. There has been cases, including a recent one, where people have lost their jobs for stealing resources.

I'm the only IT person here, i thereby grant myself permission to use IDLE cpu time :) honestly they could care less so long as it doesnt effect production. most of these boxes see spikes of 1%cpu in a weeks time.

i'll give that a shot, allthough at the same time one server will initialize the project fine while the other wont, same connection for both.

Thanks!

I don't mean to sound argumentative, but even if you're the only IT person, you would want to make sure the company is OK with it. The recent case I referred to saw the head of the IT department fired even though he had SETI OK'd through his previous management.

I'm in the same boat as you in that I am the only IT Admin at my current job, and I also know the CEO personally and he doesn't mind that I run SETI on our work machines either, so long as it doesn't interfere with anyone's productivity.

Your point is valid. Maybe i'll just run it on my non production "test" / end of life machines which were dumpster bound ..
