The Space Shuttle Endeavour, which is set for a 4:39 a.m. EST - Feb. 7, 2010 launch, will carry a module known as Tranquility to the International Space Station. Tranquility will have a "Cupola", a small dome with 7 windows, installed with the most incredible view out the windows, the view of the world. Its going to be beautiful, i think Arthur C. Clarke would have been proud to see this module installed on the ISS. If i was up there, i would want to eat, sleep and work inside that Cupola. Its the stuff of dreams! Thanks for posting the good pictures. Anyone know the story for why the position of the cupola on the ISS has been changed from its originally intended location? Yep, Quote CNET News; NASA originally planned to attach Tranquility to Unity's Earth-facing port [Right side], but engineers decided to move it to the left side of the module to improve options for docking future commercial cargo ships and NASA's planned Orion crew transfer vehicle. Un-quote. Full story from January 27, 2010 4:09 PM PST; http://news.cnet.com/8301-19514_3-10442964-239.html John. |
