My SETI@home client is being prevented from downloading more work units by the sever:

Message from server: SETI@home Enhanced needs 32.00MB more disk space. You currently have 0.00 MB available and it needs 32.00 MB

Yet, when I check, there's plenty available:

df
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 37G 22G 14G 61% /
udev 10M 228K 9.8M 3% /dev
none 504M 0 504M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 99M 79M 15M 85% /boot

What's up with that? How do I reset the errant 0 MB available status?

Thanks in advance,
Erik.

You'll have to adjust your SETI@home Computing preferences. The following are mine, so you might have to tweak the values a bit:
Use at most 2 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.05 GB disk space free
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored)
Use at most 50% of total disk space

After changing the values online, you'll have to click Update in the Projects tab of BOINC manager, after highlighting SETI. Check also your local preferences, because they override the online ones.
You can check your success in the Messages tab. After a restart (I'm not sure if after an Update also), you'll find there a line like
13/01/2010 01:29:11||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.86GB

Gruß,
Gundolf

OK. I tweaked the settings for that computer as you indicated, same results. I removed all location specific settings and tweaked the general ones as indicated, same results. I detached and re-attached to the project, same results. I've stopped and re-started the boinc client daemon, same results.

It seems as if the boinc client is confused and still maintains that there are 0 GB free (as displayed on the computer's statistics web page) or that there are less than 32 MB free (as displayed in the GUI client messages tab).

Are there any other things tha I might try to break through this block?
Thanks in advance.

Would you mind copying your disk usage preferences here, just the same as I did?

And please include the total and free disk space on your BOINC volume.

Disk and memory usage:
Use at most 10 GB disk space
Leave at least (Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.05 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space
Tasks checkpoint to disk at most every 5 seconds
Use at most 50% of page file (swap space)
Use at most 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most 50% of memory when computer is not in use

Okay, without the real values for total and free disk space, I still have to guess, but why not try
Leave at least (Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.005 GB disk space free
Use at most 99% of total disk space
Use at most 90% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most 90% of memory when computer is not in use

Once the value for "Preferences limit disk usage to ---GB" in your Messages tab is nonzero, you can fine tune the preferences.

Still a no-go. The system disk did fill up to 0 bytes free, but I cleaned up a bunch of stuff to make 14GB free.

OK, so I stopped the boinc daemon, cleaned out the following files from /var/lib/boinc:

account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml
client_state.xml
client_state_prev.xml
global_prefs.xml
master_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml
sched_reply_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml
sched_request_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml
statistics_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml

and restarted the daemon, re-connecting it to the project, and now it seems that all is well.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I tried all of that above, but still have that problem.

Any other ideas?

regards

If you restart the BOINC client, in the Messages tab appears a line containing "Preferences limit disk usage to..."

What is the value at your system?

What are your values for "Use at most", "Leave at least free" and "Use at most %" regarding disk space?

Are you using local preferences? They override the online ones.

Gundolf

Sorry for the late response, but I cleaned out all the config XML files, re-attached to the project, and now it seems to have picked up and is running again.
