Could boinc use an old X1800XT GPU of mine or is this card too outdated?

Minimum would be the HD2000+ series.

Collatz can use from 2400 up, as can SETI beta for Astropulse.

Milkyway requires a card capable of double precision, 3800 series, 4770, 4800 series, 5800 series, 5970.
