Hi,

I re-installed Windows (full format) on my PC and I was wondering... what was going to happen with the task that were assigned me but not completed before I format...

Will the BOINC manager sends them back to me? Or how can I retrieve it?

Because when I look in my results I see many pendings but I'm only working on 3 at the moment...

Any work that was still on the computer will have to time out and be reassign to someone else. The Boinc server software is capable of resending lost work to the same computer under certain conditions (same OS, computer name, etc), but the Seti project doesn't use that feature as it was found to be too server intensive because of its large user base.

When possible it is better to set the project to 'No new task', report completed work and reset the project(s) before doing something like a reformat. This ensures that completed work is credited and other WU reassigned immediately. Backing up the Boinc data folder is also a good idea to simplify reattaching to projects especially if you have multiple projects.

The other nice way is to copy the entire BOINC data directory tree to a different location (CD for example) and restore it from there after the format and before the install of BOINC. In that case, BOINC would pick up right where it left off.

If you do copy to CD, zip it first. Else when you restore from CD, everything is read-only, due to the medium being read-only.
