Message 959153 - Posted: 29 Dec 2009, 3:06:38 UTC
Last modified: 29 Dec 2009, 3:40:57 UTC

I rejoined about 4 weeks ago, loaded boinc and seti on my new Windows 7 Dual Quad core machine and for the last 4 weeks, it has been running flat out, CPU's always maxed at 100% and GPU maxed when I'm not working. Then suddenly it's not any more. CPU's are idle, it shows GPU is the only thing working.

I've been through my settings and can't find why this is. Any help is appreciated.

Here is my startup log, sorry it's so long.

I know it says no more work units availabe at the end, but I have probably 100 units in the queue waiting, and not processing.

first off please don't post 100's of lines from your messages. this is not necessary unless someone specifically asks you to do this.

second. looking at your WU's I see nothing but CUDA WU's. If oyu have your GPU set to only work when the GPU is not in use. you'll see your work come to a complete stop. You may need to get the Lunatics rescheduler to send a few of the Cuda WU's to your CPU. Also note that Berkeley was without power since yesterday so there was no way to get any work for almost 24 hours.

What version are these "100 units in the queue waiting"?
If they are
setiathome_enhanced 6.08
or
setiathome_enhanced 6.09
they can only be processed by GPU (CUDA)

You need WUs branded
setiathome_enhanced 6.03
for the CPU

You don't have them because SETI servers were offline for a day.

Your BOINC try to get tasks for CPU:
SETI@home Reporting 7 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for CPU

I wasn't sure what was important, I parred the list down a bunch.

If I still have a hundred or more work units in the task list that have not been processed, shouldn't it be processing those?

Right now, only the GPU is processing anything.

Yes, they are all Seti Enhanced 6.09 units, now I know. I'll increase the work buffer from 2 days to 4 days, hopefully that will keep enough work units for the CPU's so that a 24 hour outage doesn't stall me out.

As I stated before, the good folks at Lunatics site have a "rescheduler" that you can use to "reschedule" some of the Cuda work for your CPU.

Hello,

Since last week, I only get WU for CUDA and no more for my CPU !

After reading this post end of last week , I supposed that was an effect of the power outage and I dedicated my CPU to another project.

Now it seems SETI servers are again working properly, but I still continue getting only CUDA WU and no for my CPU!

I have checked all my parameters, searched on FAQ without fining any solution!.
Can somebody help me?

Regards.

Which version of BOINC are you running? Are you still attached to the other project?

He has 1 computer and it looks like its running both CPDN and Seti. I'm willing to bet his problem is the CPDN is running High Priority or has WU's that require a great deal of the CPU's time. When the CPDN WU's get closer to finishing he'll probably get more seti.

To test this theory, simply suspend CPDN on your BOINC manager, then update seti. If everything is working correctly you'll get some seti work. unsuspend after the BOinc manager updates seti. it may take several updates to see if this works. BOINC will usually ask for work for the GPU even if you don't have A GPU to do seti work. then it will ask for CPU work

Thanks a lot,

I am running the version 6.10.18 and as proposed I have suspended new work for CPDN. So in few days (CPDN WU are quite long !) I will know if it's ok.

I would suspend the current work you are running and see if seti sends you anything

I tested your proposal with success! Now I have uploaded WU for my CPU (which is very happy!!!)
Thanks.
