Why we crunch results from 2007? Where is tapes from 2008 and 2009? I am cruncher :) I LOVE SETI BOINC :) |

we've completed all of them. there are times when there is no recording being done so there are gaps in production. We supposedly are going to get some new work in the next few weeks In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Pepi, The MilkyWay alone is 100,000 light years across, mankind has only been transmitting our own radio signals for about 60 years. So a year or two will make no difference in the data you are crunching. Its all good data, doesn't matter if it was recorded yesterday or 10 years ago. John. |

Pepi, I agree with you; but if we complete crunching of year 2007 why we dont crunch 2008 ? Maybe we will be better luck? I dont see any sense to crunch same data again and again if we use same algorithm: If first time it doesnot show anything it will not show next time :) I am cruncher :) I LOVE SETI BOINC :) |

Pepi, Maybe the algorithm has changed. Maybe the scientists are trying different things and adapting to search different frequency ranges. That would be a good thing! I like to see scientists trying different things and adapting to the results they are getting. If you don't succeed at first, try and try again! Reanalyse the data. I believe the SETI@home scientists are currently putting great effort into removing RFI (Radio interference) from the data. John. |

And maybe we analyze only 2007 that have silence from aliens :) That year his radio telescope are broken and they need one year to fix it :) And we reanalyze and reanalyze "empty data" :) I am cruncher :) I LOVE SETI BOINC :) |

Maybe the algorithm has changed. Maybe the scientists are trying different things and adapting to search different frequency ranges. AFAIK this tapes from 2006, 2007 where never analyzed (crunched) because of RFI in them. Now they remove RFI by software before splitting to workunits. How to "search different frequency ranges" if the record don't contain them? Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
