Does September 1999 count as an early contributor?

I'm going to go with Yes on that one, but I might be biased.

Preston: There was a 10 year thread that was started last year. If you can find it you'll be able to see everyone that's still around. It was called "Welcome to the 10 year club" or seomthign along those lines.

Sometimes I think we are alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we are not. In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Keep in mind it's not too hard to hijack an existing Seti Classic account if having a 1999 create date is the End-All Be-All for you.

And yes, I agree, the old screensaver was much better, but no screensaver is best for crunchtimes. ;)

Those are two reasons why I don't use the screensaver any more.

When I started, I had a 233@266 Pentium 1, lets not forget, with MMX.
A WU when I first started took if I remember right, about 4 hours.

I started crunching, Right over there <---- heh (dont recall the date right off...)

If I remember right, I read about Seti@home in Maximum PC, and had to check it out...

I too joined on May 18. 1999.

Actually I joined on the first day they went public (May 14 ?), but by mistake put in a wrong E-mail adress.

Back then you couldn't change it in settings, so to have E-mails from Seti come through, I re-joined a few days later with a working E-mail adress.

Have been crunching every single day, with a few very short breaks (mostly due to hardware failures, or having computers shut down for vacations), since then.

But it has allways annoyed me a little that I got my first registration wrong...

I didn't find SETI until August 1999 and I am still here (although I am WAY down on the list of total contributors).

I also am a Johnny-come-lately. I had registered for the email notification but it never came. However, I just happened to click on the bookmarked link shortly after the grand opening. Maybe someone else can correct this but as I remember some people were able to get started a few days before the official date of May 18, 1999.

Only had:
SETI@home classic workunits: 1,147
SETI@home classic CPU time: 14,200 hours

But there also was a six-month break or so when my anti-virus flagged a .sah file as a virus. At the time, the virus definition report made that one seem like a real virus.

I've been around here since May 15, 1999, so guess I'm firmly in the 10 year club. I was surprised to find that I show as high as 38981 (although dropping as I've no CUDA boards in use.
