Message 988817 - Posted: 13 Apr 2010, 3:51:38 UTC

I came in May 7, 1999. In some ways it seems like yesterday, in others like another life time. It is funny back then I thought that after a few years, at the most, we would find at least a very promising signal. Since then I have learned much and realize that this is something that could actually go on for generations. I am going to make a prediction though, within the next 6 months my computer is going to find that "super wow" signal and we will know for sure that we are not alone. Ok, it is nice to dream isn't it? I would love it if we would find something at least in the next couple of years but like I said this is something that could take many generations.
I myself have been in and out of SETI@home over the years but I thank all of you that donate your time to this wonderful task. Even if we find nothing this is an important task. I wish we could have 10 times the amount of volunteers as well as ten times the amount of data to study, think what we could accomplish!
I hope this made sense, I have been awake for 53 hours so my poor mind is not real clear at the moment.

Best Regards,
Philip

Hi there well done on the million mark.
I joined 3rd April 1999 but have been off line for a few years.
Back now though with very modest processing setup and a mere
132751 credits plus whatever Seti has been sitting on since Sunday.

I had seti classic running on one of the first (SN<2000) SGI Origin 2000 quad systems circa 1997 (two years earlier than 99). Cranked out a WU every few minutes.

Joined up to S@H on 16 Jun 2000 so quickly coming up on 10 years of solid crunching. Only 8836 of the classic WU's but now turning about 1.75 million credits a week now.

My how things have changed over the years when it comes to computers and performance. 10 years ago we wouldn't have known what to do with more than 2 cpu cores in a machine let alone the 32 (+32 Hyperthread) in the system I am putting together shortly. It should be a monster!

13 June 1999 for me (26,071 original SETI Classic workunits). One of my original 263MHz computers is still contributing. I hope us oldtimers (and you newer folk) will be around for a long time. Rick
