Regarding the secondary science database recovery debacle, we're throwing in the towel on that one. We tried to be clever by only dealing with specific sub-databases/tables in question, but the inner workings of Informix are way too complex and protective. So at our next earliest convenience we're going for the slow, brute force method, i.e. we're going to totally drop all secondary databases, back up everything on the primary, the recreate all the secondary databases from the backup. This is much like how we do it in MySQL land, but that database is 10s of gigabytes - the science db is upwards to 100 times that size.

The donation drive letters continue to trickle out, requiring occasional attention on my part. I did pass along comments to the higher-ups made here and elsewhere, but that's as far as I went. I'm kind of sticking to my role as "the guy who just sends the mail along" for my own sanity. There was a broken URL in one of the emails I received - see details below. Is there another better forum to discuss the Donation Drive and its emails ? Thanks for passing on the comments in the previous thread. Hopefully in the future the tax info will be more correct. Are you going to be sending out more than two different emails to each of us this year ? I ask because I just donated, and in doing so I discovered that there was a typo in the URL in the second email you sent out, that meant it didn't work. The URL in the first email, without the typo, did work correctly, and within seconds the donation even appeared on my account page. The first email I received from "Dan Werthimer" sent Dec 10, with the working url https://givetocal.berkeley.edu/egiving/index.cfm?Org=SETI@home&Fund=FB0231000&givernote=170263&cadsid=967214 The second one "David P. Anderson" 16th December, with the broken URL https://givetocal.berkeley.edu/egiving/index.cfmOrg=SETI@home&Fund=FB0231000&givernote=170263&cadsid=967214 HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found. Note the typo there is an important "?" missing after index.cfm Wishing all the seti staff all the best for the Festive Season and the New Year, and hoping you get some time off between power cuts. We do appreciate the regular updates. All the best for christmas and the new year to you and the rest of the team. Cheers, MarkJ ____________ BOINC blog

So I now have 17 completed jobs that show as "uploading" in the status field on the tasks page. (only 1 running task left for my 4 cpus to eat :( ) The messages page says "temporarily failed to upload" Is there a problem there? or is there one here I need to fix?

If I remember correctly no tasks will be downloaded if there are two or more tasks in queue for upload.

You may want to set your cache just a bit higher. A multi hour outage is not uncommon. ____________ Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound!
