I’m toying with the idea of setting up my boxes to run as services But when it comes to being a real I.T. I can just barely spell it I have learned how to install as a service after 3 hours of playing with it. But how do you de-install or upgrade when the inevitable versions 4.??s Come on line? I have found many posts about starting boinc as a service but none about upgrading It scares me since 2 of my boxes are 350 miles away if I cant fix it by remote I do not want to make the drive on every upgrade Thanks in advance Fred |

> I have found many posts about starting boinc as a service but none about > upgrading > I assume that you have a remote control program of some kind running. You can stop the BOINC service from the command line with "net stop boinc" and then start it again with "net start boinc". Or you can find the Services Icon inder control panel - administrative tools. Find BOINC, and right click. Stop and start appear on the right button menu. Once the service is stopped, you should be able to install over the top. Make certain the you do not leave the automatically start at boot option checked. In a few releases, the new GUI and CLI will be comming out as a matched pair. All installations will run the CLI with the GUI controlling the CLI. BOINC WIKI |

If you plan of using the service version of BOINC I would highly suggest just removing the shortcut in the Startup folder and allowing it to start as automatically. I would also suggest you use a third party GUI until the new GUI comes out to monitor BOINC. My personal favorite is BoincView. The web page is: http://boincview.amanheis.de/?page=download |
