Throughout history various Societies, Religions and Governments have had groups of "vigilantes" try to control the way people talk, act, dress, think. It seems there are those who wish to do the same here on the message boards. They want to control who can post to a thread or ban them from the message boards entirely if they don't like you or what you say or do.

Janus' proposal to rate a single post by an individual is more than adequate. But even this will probably be abused by "gangs of bullies" going around and rating an individuals threads or posts.

No rating of an entire thread is needed.
No control of who can post to a thread is needed.
No rating of an individual is needed.

You really need to get a life...preferably a short one.

Stewie: So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway?

Since I'm on a modem, I wish there was a moderator to take care of Dumb A$$ top posters and blatant advertisers that double my page load time. Spammers and Trolls should be banned.

While some people probably do want to do this, I think most people just want to keep these boards orderly. Number crunching should only have posts in it related to number crunching. Is that too much to ask? Random "Hello, have a nice day" messages should go in the Cafe Seti section. While seti hasn't set up any official rules about this (see LHC), it really should be common sense.

Well Janus has pretty much confirmed that *IF* the ratings sytem goes into effect, none of these will happen.

This has also been pretty much ruled out I think. LHC was considering it for a while but I'm not sure if anything ever came of it.

These will cut down on the bandwidth.

This reminds me of someone who complains about politicans but doesn't read the ballot. I guess that's why we have network television and sitcoms...

I've already gotten rid of extraneous items in the post. My problem is the number of trolls on the board.

I've possibly been spoiled by other well run board with thousand of posters but very few nuisance users.

I find the "hate" posts in the threads and threads that help to inflame it far more offensive. Do these belong in the Number Crunching board?

Janus' solution does not solve the problem of multiple threads on the same topic. I don't know how many "Here's how to fix the credit system" or "Is the thing down" or whatever threads I've seen. There's no reason to have all these threads talking about the same thing over and over and over again.
