"You Hide your computers - why?
There is NO sensitive info which we can see - only the type of CPU, GPU and OS."

Like I said. Paranoid schizophrenia. I'm afraid you're just going to have to humor me. It's not under my control.

You're also going to have to please explain resource share. I'm not computer literate.

My computer is on 24/7 except for Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have.

[off topic] That's funny, you don't show any signs of schizophrenia to me. Are you sure you aren't just plain paranoid? Even so, hiding one's computers is a choice which is why there's an option.

:) Yes, I am psychic - I can see your room - you are in front of the - WAIT, WHAT is this ...... I see, ...
I see ..., YES - a computer ... and ... you are moving your hands and fingers over ... wait a moment ... some kind of a device .....
aaaaaaah - it's a keyboard and ........ you are typing on it
WHAT? ..... Oh, I know now - you are typing "I will NOT show MY computer whatever you say"
;)

(If Scott Armstrong is your real name it tells much more info about you than a few common computer details!)

You're also going to have to please explain resource share. I'm not computer literate.

If you like/prefer SETI@home more than other projects
and want your computer to work for SETI 77% of the time
leaving 3 x 8% CPU time for your 3 other projects:

Go to "Your account" - http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php
Click on "SETI@home preferences"
Click on "Edit SETI@home preferences" (at bottom of the page)
Change "Resource share:" from 100 to 1000
Click button "Update preferences" (at bottom of the page)

When BOINC connects to the SETI@home servers it will read the new preferences.
You can do this manually -
in BOINC Manager - "Projects" tab - select SETI@home - Click button "Update"

"That's funny, you don't show any signs of schizophrenia to me."

That's funny, I didn't know you could hear the voices in my head telling you I don't have schizophrenia.

I may be medicating for it, but it's not complete coverage. If it weren't for the medication, I'd be worried about meeting aliens, not devoting computer time to finding them.

BilBG, the reason I'm asking is not a matter of liking which project more, but a matter of distributing work evenly.

"When you say "My installer is doing the same thing" (hang in the middle of installation) do you refer to the file boinc_6.10.18_windows_intelx86.exe"

Yes, but apparently it's working, according to Ageless.

According to the start-up messages you posted in this thread, it starts with "12/27/2009 10:37:20 AM||Starting BOINC client version 6.10.18 for windows_intelx86", which tells me that you've got 6.10.18 installed.

"I'm fully assuming your BOINC is overworked with what you've loaded it up with"

I had no idea that could happen, because I've seen people on this forum working a lot more than four(if I'm interpreting everybody's stats correctly). Should I withdraw from a project or two? Or should I distribute the resources better?

You have a 2.5GHz Celeron, which isn't the most powerful of CPUs. I'm not so sure you should run CPDN with it as well as other projects, but since you seem to be turning out good work there (your last model took a little over 1.4 million seconds to complete), I don't see why not either. I wouldn't change the resource shares over it.

BOINC will learn from all this work it is doing for CPDN and Docking and eventually pay back the time it is using the CPU on those projects to Seti and Einstein.

No, I can't hear the voices in your head, but I work with Bi-polars, Obsessive Compulsives and Schizophrenics every day for the last 10 years. You tend to be able to pick up on things, even through medication. I have known some people to self-diagnose or to get a doctor to put them on meds when they really don't need it (like my gf's mom who is a compulsive liar by diagnosis, as well as a hypochondriac).

At any rate, I don't want to hijack this thread, or talk about a topic you may not be comfortable with. You also seem to get defensive rather quickly, and it is not my intention to make you so. I was simply curious because I can see why paranoia is relevant if you are concerned about privacy, but I wasn't sure how schizophrenia fit into hiding computers or not.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Ozz, most people don't know I have it when they see me in person, so I have no idea how anybody could divine it from a message board.

True, but most people don't deal with mental illness on an everyday basis either, so I wouldn't expect most people to be able to tell very easily.

Despite a message board being nothing but words, you can get a certain "feel" for an individual's personality through the words they use. Given that people with MI have distinct personality traits that are considered "abnormal", it can be quite easy to spot once you know what to look for. I have successfully spotted MI on message boards previously, but alas, I am not able to spot each and every case flawlessly. Mine was but a question to understand further the claim of schizophrenia as it related to your paranoia about hiding computers. My apologies if I have offended you by bringing it to the forefront of discussion.

No offense taken. I'm used to schizophrenia by now, but the voices come back in force if I don't take my meds on time.
