Do a repair installation of BOINC 6.6.38 (link provided in case you need to download it again). Just start that installer and choose Repair. Then try to install the next BOINC immediately on top of it. See if that juggles it loose. |

try this! 1. Start task manager and kill all boinc assosiated processes. This includes boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe, boinctray.exe 2. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe) http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe 3. Run this utility , find , and remove Boinc Installation. 4. Install the new version over the old one everything should work. Firegate_13 Was Here! BeWare! Patras Wireless Metropolitan NetWork |

I have had to have my harddrive re-imaged and I am trying to re-install Boinc 6.10.18 back on my computer. But every time I try to do this I get the following error "looking of boinc.msi installation package, I hit cancel an another message comes up "Error 1714 the older version of Boinc can't be found." Please help. What can I do to get Boinc back on my computer? |

If I were told that the older version cannot be found, I'd install that one first. Install 6.6.38 and then 6.10.18. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) SETI@home classic workunits 3,758 SETI@home classic CPU time 66,520 hours |

I'm not receiving any error messages, but my installer is doing the same thing. I've tried all of the above. For some reason, BOINC is now only performing Docking@home and when it switches between projects, it only lists what I am participating in, then goes back to Docking. It's never done that before. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

You don't get answers because it is not clear what do you say/ask. "... my installer is doing the same thing." - What "the same" is it doing? If you can't install how do you can run BOINC? "it only lists what I am participating in" - What do you mean? To clarify - copy/paste here some 10-20 rows of messages (from the "Messages" tab of BOINC Manager). My installer is doing the same thing Raul is reporting. I thought that was clear. I've tried everything except for what was recommended for error messages because I didn't receive any, and the installer is still doing the same thing. I thought that was also clear. My screensaver is doing something it's never done before. I also that that was clear enough. So how am I miscommunicating? Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Your computers are hidden, so we can't even check if you're attached, if you have work, what BOINC version you use at this time or what Windows version it is on. So no, it's not really clear what you're trying to say. Bill asked you to post the BOINC start-up messages, which you haven't done either. In such a case you will have to explain in minute detail what you see, what you expected to see and what you think it isn't doing. We aren't watching over your shoulder when you do what you do, so we cannot see what you see. You will have to explain that for us. Perhaps add screen shots, photos, print-outs, error messages, a Youtube video? |

OK, your Docking tasks take +/-9 hours to complete. That CPDN model you have takes around 19.5 hours per trickle. I'm fully assuming your BOINC is overworked with what you've loaded it up with, so it won't get work from Einstein or Seti at this time. It's trying to finish the Docking tasks first, then it'll probably go into trying to do that CPDN model to completion first. When you check in BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Tasks tab, what is the status of the task that's running? If "Running, High Priority", then BOINC is trying to finish that task before its deadline. The screen saver code changed, it now shows what projects you are attached to, switching to the actual project screen saver if the project has one. This is to give extra information and to always give a screen saver that shows information, even on those projects that do not have a screen saver application. Now all that doesn't explain what you're trying to do with an installer. You've got BOINC 6.10.18, which is the present recommended version. You don't have to upgrade any further at this time. |

If SETI@home is your favorite project then change its resource share from 100 to 1000 (or 10000 or any bigger than 100 number you like) If SETI@home resource share is set to 1000 you will have a "pie" or "pizza" made of 1300 "pieces" (seconds, minutes) - BOINC will try to get: for every 1000 seconds of SETI@home work only 100 + 100 + 100 seconds for your other 3 projects. This means (if all projects have (can send) work) that your CPU will compute: for SETI@home - 1000/1300 = 77% of the time for Docking@Home - 100/1300 = 8% of the time for Einstein@Home - 100/1300 = 8% of the time for climateprediction.net - 100/1300 = 8% of the time BOINC will need some time (days, weeks) to accommodate the change (as you have already downloaded work to complete). P.S. When you say "My installer is doing the same thing" (hang in the middle of installation) do you refer to the file boinc_6.10.18_windows_intelx86.exe ? _ Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

"When you say "My installer is doing the same thing" (hang in the middle of installation) do you refer to the file boinc_6.10.18_windows_intelx86.exe" Yes, but apparently it's working, according to Ageless. "I'm fully assuming your BOINC is overworked with what you've loaded it up with" I had no idea that could happen, because I've seen people on this forum working a lot more than four(if I'm interpreting everybody's stats correctly). Should I withdraw from a project or two? Or should I distribute the resources better? By the way, I've hidden my computer because I have paranoid schizophrenia, and opening it for everybody to view seems Big Brother-ish. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

"I'm fully assuming your BOINC is overworked with what you've loaded it up with" It depends on how fast your computer is and how big your "WU cache" is. Did you change your Computing preferences: Computer is connected to the Internet about every - XX days Maintain enough work for an additional - YY days It depends also on change of your habits of using the computer. If in the past the computer was ON all the time and computing on projects BOINC downloaded more (enough) work for this type of usage. If now you use it rarely and sleep/switch it off when you do not use it BOINC will see this and accommodate - but slowly - as it will try to complete the already downloaded work. "Distributing the resources" is what I explained above as "resource share". By the way, I've hidden my computer because I have paranoid schizophrenia, and opening it for everybody to view seems Big Brother-ish. You Hide your computers - why? There is NO sensitive info which we can see - only the type of CPU, GPU and OS. See my computers by clicking on my "name" BilBg to the left of this post - what you can see about mine is all that we can see of yours. So there is no need to hide your computers ... "When you say "My installer is doing the same thing" (hang in the middle of installation) do you refer to the file boinc_6.10.18_windows_intelx86.exe" I have around 60 projects attached to some of my computers. Sometimes BOINC needs to do some crunching to clear the cache a bit so that more work can be usefully downloaded without missing deadlines. There is nothing wrong with this. BOINC WIKI |
