Message 953470 - Posted: 9 Dec 2009, 22:48:07 UTC

Hi folks,
I have a problem: since several weeks, when I try to connect BOINC to the SETI@home-server, I always get a "communication deferred" message. What´s the problem there?
Thanks,

Hartmut

I checked it, and there are 2 error messages: "Your computer has no NVIDIA GPU",
and then it complains that it needs 32 more MB of disk space, but I had 0.00 MB available (I don´t know what gives it THAT idea).

Your preferences. Check in your Computing preferences
Use at most 2 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.05 GB disk space free
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored)
Use at most 50% of total disk space
(those are my settings).

Fragmented is no problem. Full would be, but it is most like the disk allowance settings for BOINC.

4.67 GB free on the HDD. Played with the settings a bit, so max. use is now 2GB, max. free is 1 GB, max. usage of free mem 75%. Changed it both in the local settings in the prog as well as in the general settings on the website. Still the same.

What about percentage of total disk space?

Why don't you use my values to test it out? Once the recognized value is greater than zero, you can still fine tune.

For starters, try
Use at most 4 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.05 GB disk space free
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored)
Use at most 90% of total disk space

Gundolf

Hi!
Thanks, finally it worked out. First it still gave me the same error, but upon the next booting of the system, it finally downloaded new data automatically.
Thanks again!
Cheers,

Hartmut

Message 960032 - Posted: 2 Jan 2010, 2:41:04 UTC - in response to Message 955270.

I am getting the following messages:

SETI@home Message from server: No work sent
SETI@home Message from server: No work is available for Astropulse v5
SETI@home Message from server: Your computer has no NVIDIA GPU
SETI@home Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 95.8% of time, computation enabled 47.4% of that

I have plenty of disk space and disk has been defragged recently. I don't have an NVDIA GPU.
Any help would be appreciated.

The messages you see do not indicate that there is another task from a different project that needs some time. Do you have work from a different project running?

ClimatePrediction's workunits are extremely large/long. Even with 1/3 resource share, they can monopolize BOINC's scheduler. "Communication deferred..." in this case is not a problem or an error. It simply means your computer has enough work to do and will not download more until it takes care of what it has on it's plate currently.
