You are one already, because of your Beta project work: strange that the tag hasn't shown up yet - it's usually automatic, and very quick. Possibly Pappa could help?

[You must have signed up to both projects with the same email address - a common cause of problems if you don't - because your 'other projects' data is showing properly on your account]

Join the Seti Beta project, (yes, I've seen you there)
make sure you've used the same email address,
and at least one of your computers needs to be on Seti Main and Beta projects,
beyond that i don't know how long it'll take to synch up.

I've been crunching for beta for awhile now. If the Volunteer Tester tag is supposed to be automatic, then something is wrong, because it doesn't show up for me either.

I noticed that you and Julie both joined SETI Beta on the same date [13 Nov 2009]. I suspect that may be more than co-incidence. Try sending a PM to Pappa or Eric Korpela.

Thank You

A Note to Eric was sent.

I suspect that as the work to get the Astropulse DB fixed in the Master Science DB has every process turned off that is not critical. So as the deamon runs first in Beta (or Boinc Alpha) there is a hand off that transfers the Data to Seti Main. Those are the two ways to obtain a Volunteer Tester tag.

You need to create a new account at SETI@home Beta Test.

BOINC Manager V6.10.18, Tools/attach to project or account manager..

The URL for SETI@home Beta Test is http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta (copy/paste) (It's not in the list for to choose).

You need to use the same (Nick and) EMail, like you have at SETI@home (for to see both projects in your statistics).
But I would use an another PIN.

Well done!

IIRC, normally it last up to one day that you have the S@h BETA project also shown in your [S@h MAIN account infos].

IIRC, normally faster shown the 'Volunteer tester' here in the forum.

But because of the current probs we will see how long it will last.

No! The whole idea is to test applications - predominantly anything new that the project wants eventually to introduce as a stock application. There's no point in just churning through work as fast as possible.

Having said that, I (and others) do use optimised applications there when we're testing new optimisation ideas from Lunatics. But we accept a duty: check frequently to make sure that there's no official testing going on at the same time, and back off quickly if there is. The project takes precedence, and it's very difficult for them to track down the source of bugs if there are multiple, early-stage development versions flying about.

You may also occasionally see references to Plan B - using optimised apps to shift stale work quickly so a new test can start. But again, that should be used very rarely, and only when specific circumstances warrant it.

I think that said much the same as I've just said here:

Testing the project's stock application comes first.
Testing new optimised or alternative platform applications comes second
Running existing optimised applications just for credit comes (a long way) last.
