Message 948793 - Posted: 21 Nov 2009, 12:02:46 UTC

Just installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit and 64bit version boinc 6.10.18. Boinc Manager worked fine for the first 24 hours, now i get
boinc manager communicating with client. Please wait....
and it never connects to it. Tried opening boinc manager ans using the ctl+shift+S to go to simple view boinc manager and all it does is beeps and flash the please wait box. I can exit boinc manager and see that boinc is running.

Thanks,

Your computer list may show the new OS, but clicking on the Tasks list it doesn't show you have work for that hostID.

So weren't you running in Vista instead (all the GPU tasks)? Or did you make a whole new account for it? Are you dual booting?

When you look in C:\Programdata\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\ (assuming you used the default path for the BOINC Data directory, this directory and subdirectories may be hidden), do you have a lot of work? With a lot, I mean more than 1,500 tasks?

If that's the case, BOINC Manager will have problems to update the tasks list every second. At max it can do - maybe - 1,000 tasks.

There is a fix for this, it's the "Show active tasks" button, but that one only works if you actually see the list. So for a workaround, open the registry using Start->Run, type regedit, click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Manager\Tasks and change ActiveTasksOnly to 1 (one).

Then restart BOINC Manager. It should now work.

If you do not have 1,500 or more tasks, you may want to try BOINC 6.10.19, see if that fixes things.

I was running under vista and had both cpu and cuda running. changing regedit setting made no difference. Installed 6.10.19 and that fixed problem. This must be a new release as i did not see it under the downloads before I posted message or would have tried it first.

Thanks for the help

It's still in (sort-of) alpha test. Glad it worked for you. :-)
