Ok maybe I was wrong on My uncle slightly, It seems this website Here confirms that the P-39 was used in the Southwest Pacific for ground strafing and was kept below 17,000' in altitude by the USAAF. Wow. And this one Here says what groups(35th and the 39th only) used the P-39 starting on June 2nd 1942(I assume 2 Jun refers to 1942). This page Here has more info on units that used the P-39 and He only said in the Pacific, Not where and It's a Biiiiig frakin Ocean. :D There is also the wiki on the P-63 Here which is related to the P-39, One P-63 even has swept wings.

To all veterans, no matter what your country, no matter what the war, you are all heroes.

Reminds me of a story I would like to share...

In WWII my grandfather served landing in England on D day + 30. He never ever spoke of his time there until recently (past few years) at my grandmothers request he wrote some memoirs of his time there. I was honoured as one of his several grandchildren to receive of copy of these memoirs. I will cherish them forever as he recently passed. I digress...

During the 70's we attended a family get together at my grandparents place where some friends of his from work were in attendance. My parents are musicians and were playing some christmas carols when one of my grandfathers friends, who he had worked with for years, began singing silent night in german. It was beautiful. It brought about a discussion of christmas time during wwII in which both my grandfather and his friend had experienced the singing of Silent Night by both sides in some cold forest in Europe. Neither one of them knew the other had been in wwII until that night. It may have actually been the two of them, one on one side, one the other, but it was never discussed again. To the best of my knowledge they remained friends the rest of there lives. I believe the series Band of Brothers has a scene in one of the episodes of this or something like this happening.

Just a memory of two veterans I wanted to share with you all and I agree with Angela ...

Thank you to all who have served.

Let us hope there comes a day when there is no need of service.

Peace on earth.

Joan and Bobbie knew it long ago...........

Where have?

And Peter, Paul, and Mary.

And many of the other icons of my youth.......

They all knew that war is useless.

We all have cried and died so much....when will they listen to us?

When all the terrorists are gone....war will be useless
When all oppressive governments are gone...war will be useless
When there is freedom of religion for all....war will be useless
When all men are free....war will be useless.
Until then, like it or not,war is, unfortunately, a very necessary thing.

This has been argued about for decades.......
And sadly, probably decades more.

And although I may debate the need for war,
that in no way diminishes my respect for those who heed the call.

It is immense.

<salute>

...moment of silence...

Thank you for understanding.

The silent war from within is far more daunting to fight.

It started with JFK . Listen to him closely.......these are the last true words a politician in our country ever said.

It has gone all downhill since, and that's why he was silenced, my friends.

It WAS done by our own.........don't EVEN try to talk me out of that.

The CIA and others assassinated our president, and have suppressed it because they have the power to do so. Me, a nut case? I don't think so.

They did kill him..........to further their power.

"An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it........."

Truth, justice, and hope.......all died when he did.

And now you have a sham president, with lies and insinuation.

Obama being our president is just soooooo repugnant to me........

He has nothing to support him, he is neither a statesman nor an honest lad.

And that is a sad thing indeed for a 'head of state'.

Jesus H. Christ........listen to the words of this man again........John Fitzgerald Kennedy.........

They killed him to hide his truth.

And. as his words ring true 'even today'......he would puke at what our government has done to 'save us'......
He would not have allowed it...........
And that's why he is not here to lead us out of this abyss.

I just listened to his words..........again. And again. And again.

And they frighten me.

Because the truth that he spoke about what 'they' know is a very scary thing.

They hold our lives in the balance.........and extract a sum from every dollar I earn to fund their evil.

I know the truth about JFK.......

The truth is known, although not acknowledged.

God knows, you fools. It will come out.

I must ask.........
Can ANYBODY really refute my claim?

If so, provide more proof than I have.

THIS was a MAN.

No other has ever followed him.

I only wish one would.

We have not seen one yet.

Obama, you can't hold a candle to this man in your wildest dreams.
To think you would even try truly sickens me.

You are a bit young to remember JFK. While he did many great things, he also had his failures. These are my memories.
He was directly the cause of the Bay of Pigs failure.
He had forces fighting in Vietnam when he claimed he only had a few advisers.
He could have kept us out of Vietnam or set us on a course that would have been more than a policing action but instead put us on a course that resulted in the loss of a country.
His actions in the Cuban missile crisis allowed us to win a battle against the Russians and protected us from having atomic weapons on our door step.
He put us into the space age, but he picked a course that didn't allow for us to remain in space. Once we landed on the moon, it was over.
His person life behind closed doors would have been a tremendous scandal at the time had it leaked out, but to his credit, it never leaked out or affected his actions as president.
He was a great speaker and he spoke from his heart and not his teleprompter.
He listened and questioned his advisors but he made the decisions, not his advisors.
He had a great sense of humor and could turn any awkward moment into a memorable moment with a humorous remark.
I didn't think he was a great president at the time, but as I have learned more about what went on behind closed doors, I have come to the conclusion he was a better pick than Nixon. I think Barry Goldwater would have been a better pick but it would have been close. In any case, I think JFK may have been above average, but I don't rate him as a great.

Dena.........I respect your comments, but I think they are wrong.

This man was the greatest hope this country ever had of being what it's forefathers hoped it could be.

Bar none. LBJ was implicit in his murder. Who had the most to gain?

Read all that you can about it..........you will come to the same conclusion when you weigh all of the facts that are known. And link a few that will not be disclosed.

1. Actually Dena said it quite well. JFK had his moments, both good and bad. I was there.

2. As long as two men exist on earth, one will go to war with the other. War is not war without man. The cause of war is man. War does not cause itself. War, like poverty, will always be with us.

One does not debate facts unless ... well not with me.

Rick's grandfather knows that. Ask him.

I have seen a good deal about JFK's death and I will agree with you that the investigation into his death was a mess even by the standards of the time. The problem with LBJ being involved in JFK's death is that he would not have had the contacts to pull it off. You would be better off suggesting J. Edgar Hoover however don't forget that Hoover had the goods on everyone in washington. Hoover was happy just protecting his domain and as history shows, no one was able to remove him.
It comes down to Occam's razor and while I feel there is more we should know, the best explanation is the accepted view. It is the only one that has hard evidence to support it.
People felt the same loss for FDR, Lincoln and in other countries Stalin. Loss of a leader causes insecurity and fear for the future. The problem is when someone dies in office, they tent to be elevated to the level of sainthood. History is the best judge of how good a leader was.
I rate Reagan above JFK, but something to consider is Reagan was far older than JFK was. Reagan didn't make the mistakes that the young JFK did. Had JFK waited another 20 years before becoming president, he might not have made the mistakes he did and been a far better president.
JFK did get us through a dangerous period in history and the only lasting damage he did to the country was leaving us with Vietnam. On the other hand, I agree with you that Obama may do far more damage.

Don't get me wrong.......

I am not putting JFK up as a candidate for sainthood.

Yes, he was a man, and he had his failings like all men do.

Hoover was involved too. LBJ, Nixon.......they all had a roll either in planning or covering up the truth.

There is the old game of 'if I could go back in time'.....

This would be the first thing I would do. Camp out on the grassy knoll.......

If the truth about any one event in man's history could be revealed, I think this would be the one.

And it would shock you all if the truth were ever to come to light.

So it would shock you if what we have is the truth?

What's the point?

Would a, could a, should a, but didn't. Reality check here please.
