For many (most?) computers it shows the IP in the local network - how can this information be useful on the web pages and in the database?

It might make more sense if it was evaluated server side when a scheduler connection is made - but the way it works now, I think it should just be dropped.

Only you are able to see the IP addressess. Nobody else can, if that's your concern.

I wasn't worried about that - but I think it's another database request (depending on the implementation maybe even a GROUP BY thing) and some projects have severe performance problems on the database.
