	My server's (5142630 ) CPUs support SSE2, so I go over over here and get "LX32_AKV8_AP5_SSE2.tar.gz". I then extract the files and copy the entire contents of the "Files to install" directory to BOINC's data directory and then restart the BOINC service. I check top and find the optimized apps sucking 100% CPU. For a little while... Then it's all errors: Error, error while computing, and error while downloading... :-( (I hope I did that link right...) I completely restored the original BOINC, but apparently I was too late and the server has cut me off saying I have reached my daily quota. So, any idea what went wrong? It's probably me, I'm not very experienced at the Linux CLI. But it was running ok for a little while then crapped out, so I'm not sure. ____________

	As far as I know, the files have to be dropped into projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu beneath the data directory. You probably don't have installed the 32bit compatibility libraries. See this FAQ. 	I don't think so... It's an install of 32-bit Ubuntu Server--the CPUs are not 64-bit capable. I put the files in /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu along with the stock programs, pictures/icons, and WU files. Could it be I screwed up the directory and file permissions? (I am using the BOINC in the Ubuntu repository so that is all set up for me automatically.) That folder is protected, I must be root to even cd or ls the files. It's the only thing I can think of that I might of done wrong. I will have to shut down BOINC, write down the permissions and ownership of EVERYTHING and make sure it all matches before I restart BOINC. I do not have time to try that now though, I will have to try that later. The computer is currently crunching WUs again with the stock apps. Anyone else have any ideas? I'd really like to get the optimized apps running on the server. ____________

	Owner should be boinc_master and group should be boinc_project. Or along those lines, downloading it defaults to your ownership. Check the stock apps for the actual names. Make certain that the allow executable is checked, it should be as they were all checked before I uploaded them. ____________

	I have several Ubuntu boxes on SETI@Home and I updated one of them to 9.10. I have just noticed on the server's list of hosts that the BOINC version was bumped along with everything else. On the 9.04 computers, the BOINC version in the repository is 6.2.18, the computer that I upgraded is 6.4.5. Which, if I am not mistaken from scanning these forums, is the recommended version for Linux. Is there a minimum version of BOINC for the optimized apps? Would it at all be possible to get the optimized apps included in the repository so I could just apt-get the appropriate ones with the right permissions set? Failing that: Could someone with the optimized apps running successfully on Ubuntu Linux please post a ls -R -l of their SETI@Home projects directory so I can make sure my permissions match? TIA! UPDATE: Another question: Is this warning still applicable? "Warning for Ubuntu 9.04 (and derivatives) with kernel versions 2.6.28 and newer. Please watch the first ~dozend AP wus you crunch with these apps closely for errors saying : Segmentation Violation or Error 11. If you see such errors please do not use the optimized applications. You will not get credit for your work, because of these errors. The only known solution for this problem is to change to an earlier kernel version than 2.6.28." ____________
