Hi Rich welcome to Seti@home. About Credits. You'll note you have 4 WU's(work units) currently on your PC. THose WU's need to be completed and returned by you and a second cruncher(wingman). If you and your wingmans results are similar enough , you get credits. If not it will be resent and a 3rd person will crunch it.
several factors in delayed credit involve slow processing by wingmen to ghost WU's and other various delays.

Credits will vary from WU to WU and will the time computing each WU. generally speaking the longer a WU takes the more credit you get for it.

if you look at at your boinc manager in advanced mode you'll see a tab called "tasks" these are the Work Units and they will return automatically withing 24 hours of their completion. generally speaking the BOinc manager will take care of all the work. you can sit and watch it or just ignore it. It shouldn't interfere with your general computer use.

You request and download tasks (your share of a Work Unit) by allowing BOINC access to the internet.
You complete the tasks by allowing BOINC to use your CPU (or GPU, or some other resource - depending on which project(s) you are attached to).
You Upload and report tasks by allowing BOINC access to the internet.

Tasks are reported at the earliest of:

1) 24 hours before report deadline.
2) Connect Every X before report deadline.
3) 24 hours after completion.
4) Immediately if upload completes later than any of 1 to 3.
5) On a work fetch request.
6) On a trickle up (CPDN only as far as I know).
7) On a trickle down request (no projects that I am aware of use this).
8) On a server defined maximum contact period (some projects have started using this).
9) On a BOINC Manager Requested project contact.
10) When the user clicks "Update" on the "tasks" tab.
