10/23/2009 23:55:07 Data directory: D:\Documents and Settings

Um... why did you change your Data directory path to this directory? I don't think you have permission to read/write to the main D&S directory tree under Windows 7. I don't think the installer can set permissions on this Windows system map. (edit: apparently it can. The developers will change this so in the future you can't use just "%drive%:\documents and settings\")

The path should either be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ or any directory you made yourself.

To fix this, uninstall BOINC, reinstall it and make sure the path is correctly set (3rd screen in the installer press Advanced, change the second path). Moving all the files and directories BOINC made to the new \BOINC\ directory will make sure you don't lose (too much) work.

Message 942697 - Posted: 25 Oct 2009, 3:41:24 UTC - in response to Message 942598.

Only the system resides on the C drive, with all data on the D drive. Even though my data is backed up at specified times, if for whatever reason the system drive has a disaster, all of my data is saved, and I have immediate access to it after the system is reimaged even if the drive has to be replaced. I have never had a problem with this arrangement prior to Windows 7. This problem just started yesterday afternoon after being up for two days processing under 7. Up to that time there was no problem. Normally when I upgrade BOINC to newer versions, I specify the D drive for the data and after recycling the system, it picks up where it left off.

Okay, I also got fooled by the strange directory name so that I missed the drive letter ;-) but nevertheless you should try to reinstall BOINC, with reboots after uninstall and after reinstall.

All your GPU tasks get exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005), so also have a look at this FAQ at BOINC FAQ Service.

Gundolf

Message 942737 - Posted: 25 Oct 2009, 12:19:01 UTC - in response to Message 942697.

Is that Documents and Settings directory used by Windows 7 as the Documents and Settings directory? Did you set it up as the D&S directory for Windows to use?

Are you saving anything else to that directory? Is there a reason why you don't use a BOINC or BOINCData subdirectory to put the data directory in?

(E.g. on one of my systems, the D&S dir is on the N: partition. And it isn't that strange enough, another system of mine has C: as page file drive, D: as Windows drive).

This D&S directory was set up by me and has been in use since I first loaded Windows 98 and began to use multiple drives. All of my data is on this drive (D), Office, Outlook, pictures, etc. If for whatever reason that the system (C) drive has to be reimaged, I don't have to worry about restoring the data. I have been using the same directory for the BOINC data since I first started with SETI back in '99. I did notice that several SETI CUDA WUs were downloaded overnite and were processed correctly. I will un/re-install BOINC at the first opportunity. I see that I am not the only one to move the page file to another drive.

This D&S directory was set up by me

Still not clear for me.

Did you change the ProfilesDirectory entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList to this new position? (change %systemdrive% to D ?)

I see that I am not the only one to move the page file to another drive.

I have my page file as a separate partition on all my systems. Whenever I set up a new system I partition the drive so it has a 4GB partition for the page file alone. Works great. :)

No. As far as BOINC is concerned, I point to the directory during installation. All of the Office products point to this directory as the file save location. The auto recovery locations are defaulted to the system drive, it is my understanding that this is only used in case one of the applications has a problem and abends. Back in the day you could move the location of My Documents to another drive via the Properties tab for the folder. I just continued to use the same directory through the various operating systems. The system allocated My Documents folder still resides on the system drive, but all of the folders are empty.

As for the page file, all of my drives are single partion and I have allocated page space on the D drive, although it is not as large as yours.

Hi!
Did anyone find any answers to the aforementioned thread...it seems to have just stopped abruptly...

I'm getting the same problem for most of my CUDA tasks (SETI@home Enhanced v6.08 (cuda)) and reporting Error messages...

If anyone can take a look at my results and give us some advice it would be greatly appreciated. If I keep reporting these Errored tasks, I'll have to stop using the CUDA, which would be detrimental to the project.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

P.D. I believe it's not a version issue, as I (apparently) have the latest build and video drivers. Could be incompatability with GeF 8500GT?? Exit code is always: Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)

1. When running into this error on CUDA, check your videocard driver. For most CUDA projects the absolute minimum driver version is 177.35, anything below it can cause this error.

2. When running into this error on CUDA and your driver is above the minimum of 177.35, but your BOINC version is below 6.6.20, this may be a stuck task in the video-memory. Do a full power-cycle, aka reboot your computer, to clear up anything stuck in memory.

Thanks for your reply Ageless.

I'd already checked the FAQ and seen the description for the error...
However, the driver version I'm using for the GeF 8500GT is 191.07 (x64) with 2815MiB total available graphics memory (1024MiB dedicated). Also, my BOINC core client version is 6.6.41.
I don't think that's the problem...

Any other ideas? ;)

It never hurts to reboot. At least that will make sure that if something is stuck it will be cleared up.

I've already rebooted thrice in the last 48 hours.. mmm
I'll have to wait and see the results that are still pending validation.

Looking around: according to United BOINC (http://www.unitedboinc.com/en/project-news) about 42 hours ago:
The Windows builds of 6.6.41 has been pulled from the Download page due to a application version mismatch with some Microsoft components. Please use the 6.6.38 version until 6.10 is released.

I'm going to uninstall 6.6.41, reboot, install 6.6.38, and check the results...[/quote]

Since you managed to install 6.6.41, you're not affected by the problem of why it was retracted. It had to do with the manifest file not being recognized on clean installations. Not with the actual running of BOINC.

Besides, your problem is with the Seti CUDA application, not with BOINC.

Oh!
I see your point! I'll leave version 6.6.41 running then...

So, maybe it's a hardware compatibility problem...
What I have seen is that the CUDA error messages always point to files in the directory 'c:/sw/gpgpu/seti/seti_boinc/'.
I cannot, however locate this directory... maybe you can shed some light on this, or is it a server-side reference?

Do you reckon I should deactivate the CUDA processing? Maybe it's just too much for this medium-range GPU...

It's neither on your system, nor on the server. It's the directory that was used to build the application in.

It has no use continuing with constant errors, so if you feel it's a problem, deactivate it. But there may be other people around here who know or can hazard a guess at what's causing these errors on your system.

Although it would be useful if you could link to one or more of the tasks in question or unhide your computers so we can take a look at the full error message.

My apologies...I hadn't realized! :x
I've unhidden my machines. Here is the link to my Errored results:

They're at this moment still showing as hidden due to Seti caching the pages. Gives me some time to catch some zzzzz's, it's only 3:51am here (edit: Oh, for you as well, I see). I'll check your errors fourth thing in the morning (after toilet, cigarette and tea). :-)
