I have an Apple iMac PowerPC G5 running OS X 10.5.6 and BOINC 6.6.36 wxWidgets Version 2.8.7. My only BOINC application is SETI@home Enhanced 6.03. The only other background programs are operating system tasks. The only foreground programs are the standard Apple programs supplied with OS X.

When processing of one data set has been completed and processing should begin on another data set, about one third of the time my BOINC Manager tasks reports an elapsed time but no progress.

When I quit BOINC and restart it the report usually shows progress again relatively quickly, although occasionally I have had to quit and restart several times before any progress is reported. Thus far I have never had to shut down my computer and reboot the operating system.

I have two questions:
1. Can I trust the tasks report? This is particularly annoying when I see BOINC report that it has been running for 16 or more hours while making zero progress.
2. What can I do to ensure a smooth transition between data sets?

I am growing tired of paying the local power utility for pushing electrons through my computer to no effect.

The stock apps will do that on occasion, if you want to crunch a little faster but be responsible for upgrading the apps you can use the Alex Kan optimized apps that pretty much eliminate the problem.

You will have to run the BoincManager installer again to fix permissions.
