Message 937148 - Posted: 1 Oct 2009, 16:01:26 UTC

In the Mac Q&A yesterday, posted a question, got many answers, started to drift a bit, so marked it answered, was gonna follow up today.

Came back today, and the whole thread had been changed to just my original question, followed by answers by forum admins only.

Went to change a pref anyhow (show my country) - came back to the same Question - and the whole thread had been restored as it was, yesterday.

(this all happened before coffee, so I may not be spot on with the details).

Any idea on what happened there?
If a post/thread gets deleted, moved, modified - do the admins usually notify the user(s)?

The message boards automatically notify the user whose post is deleted, and the opener of the thread if the thread gets changed. The moderators do not have the ability to modify a post, just delete entirely.

You should normally be notified if post are moved/hidden if you have set the option in your account to receive mail from the project.

Conjecture on my part
Perhaps the thread was partially hidden while it was discussed whether to move the off topic part of it to an other thread.

You could pose the question to seti_moderators@ssl.berkeley.edu
