I have a G3 B&W running the optimized client and worker from Team MacNN. For this one machine, I look through the newly accessible Results pages to find dozens of WU's with granted credit = 0, but with claimed credit in the 30 to 40 cs range. If I look at the details of the WU/result, I see this message:

4.06

SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow
NOTE: The number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated.

What's up? Is there someway that something about my machine works fine with the standard client, but not quite right with the optimized client?

W/ this computer I have had only a single WU validated to grant credit (edit - currently I'm up to about 2/25 successful).

Many, like around 35 or 40 WU's are pending, but I see the same message referring to "result_overflow" is listed in the stderr.txt. When I check to see the progress/outcome of other hosts' work on this unit, I see that they have been granted credit. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,

Same thing with a G4 7450: with the macnn seti and boinc clients, 90% of the WU have this overflow error. Did you tried the non optmized boinc and seti ?
I will try next week end, but its not so easy, because the computer is unable since 2 days to upload any results (an upload error, with "nofilename" somewhere in the scheduler answer).

I suspect that the optimized clients were not properly tested. Compiler level optimization may be sometime terrible.

I tried using version 4.13 and it is submitting results that don't have that error message in the stderr.txt. So I believe that the 4.13 is working w/o errors. I have to wait and see (like maybe a week) to be sure - see if I get validated results and granted credit. That takes a while. For now, 3 out of 3 have completed w/o errors. With the optimized clients, the success rate was 10% or less.

Someone I trust over at Team MacNN Forum said it may be a storage space problem (like not enough room on the HD, or something quirky w/ the host preferences), but I changed _only_ the version from 4.06 optimized to 4.13 standard-issue (and it started working properly immediately), so I don't think that's the real root of the problem, though it may be contributing factor. I have a hard time believing that something isn't wrong with my machine, but it performs flawlessly otherwise.

Someone by the name of mikkyo over at MacNN has done an _excellent_ job of doing the heavy lifting on these things - we owe him a debt of gratitude.

I'll post back in a week with an update of my results.
