I am interested in developing something for this project and my area of expertise is web development (php, html, flash actionscript)

any chances of accessing my data through an API, like logging in, getting data, analyzing, sending it back without using the standard boinc client?

maybe create an web interface on my website where if people agree can utilize their computation power to analyze data?

hope it makes some sense to someone, this is a great project but we have to move it into web 2.0 style, cloud computing, api and development possibilities for the community ..

Unfortunately, you are probably not going to get much help around here for doing a non-BOINC project.

If you are writing a BOINC application, you might want to join the BOINC projects email list.

well thats sad ... you would think that in a place like SETI new ways of doing stuff faster and smarter would find some supporters, and we could develop for the cutting edge of internet today ...

boinc seems to me very sluggish and slow ..

BOINC is somewhat publicly funded. SETI is funded by private donations. Both are separate entities, even though some of the same people work on both.

That being said, BOINC was created to use spare computer cycles. The projects then create programs that run under the BOINC architecture. Projects are finding ways to make their products to run faster, but BOINC does nothing but manages those.

As for an API, BOINC and SETI are open source. Someone has made a Facebook API to make different projects run on your computer. I have not looked into how it works.

Programmers have tried many things. Some projects now run on a PS3. They have some projects running on different Video Cards. Changes are coming all the time.

So, if you are a programmer and want a challenge, go download the source and have fun.

Try Porting and optimizing SETI@home on the SETI homepage.

Even if you get the source code from the link Gundolf pointed at, you'll find you need the BOINC source code as well, if you plan on building any of it.
