I've installed Boinc and seti@home on FreeNAS (a stripped down version of free-BSD) and although the installation went successfully (using instruction from here: http://people.freebsd.org/~pav/boinc.html) every time I try to use or attach an project I get:
connect: Connection refused
can't connect to local host
never mind what I try to do I get the same output.
I will appreciate any help with this problem.

Did you set up the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file correctly?

Perhaps a search at the BOINC wiki could help. There's also a link to this guide to be found.

I read about this, if your running command line only you can remove the account manager that is relying on that psw and just run the client by itself. Or thats what I heard im a n00b so take that with a grain of salt.I could be wrong, but thats what I read, btw, very cool getting that working on freenas, Ive ran freenas and pfsense both.
Fixer was here..

Do you connect with boinccmd to the BOINC client when you attach to the project ? - If yes, are you in the directory, where the BOINC client binariy is installed ?
Is the BOINC client started with the option "--allow_remote_gui_rpc" ?

Otherwise you can try to attach with the BOINC client to attach to the project (boinc_client --attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu <ACCOUNT_KEY>).
