Friends....crunchers...Lend me your hands and your eyes! Yes it is that time again! The Fall/Back-to-School Seti Donation Challenge! This donation drive will last until Friday September 25th at Midnight Eastern Time The Seti staff works phenomenally hard for us to keep Work as stable as possible despite aging hardware and limited manpower. Let's help them out by providing enough money to get upgraded hardware, another staff member hired--or even just keep the lights on. The link below will provide information on different methods to donate. Credit Card transactions are currently down but staff has been notified. I'll update the thread when that method is available again. **DONATION METHODS LINK** If you would be so kind to do so, please post here with the amount of your donation. Anonymous donations can be PM'ed to me and I'll post the amount only. My fellow Moderator Champ will be helping me keep an eye on amounts donated so we can provide a final report to you at the end of the Challenge. This thread will be dedicated to donations only. Please support those who do choose to donate-negative comments will be removed. Thank you! Blurf (on behalf of the Seti Staff and Moderators) |

Thank you for your gift of $50.00 for: SETI@home. The credit card method indeed worked. Happy Labor Day to all U.S. crunchers! |

We've also had an anonymous donation of $250 sent in by Credit Card a few moments ago. |

I've just donated $10.00. And I plan to do it every month (as long as I can afford it) from now on. |

Yes we can :) SETI@Netherlands has its 10th anniversary on September 25th 2009. Because of this event we are keeping a donation rally for the SETI@home project. Every donation that is made to the SETI@Netherlands foundation between July 1st and September 25th, will be donated to SETI@home on September 25th. We will keep you informed of the amount on a (almost) daily basis in this thread. Till September 8th, this mounts up to $ 1409,-- |

Dear Friends, Any further matters involving the Donation Challenge will be handled by Moderator Champ. Hopefully another person will pick up any Green Star donation issues to help follow up with those. Best Wishes and Good Luck on the Challenge! Blurf |

Thank you for your gift to SETI@home. "Waiting is." is a quote from "Stranger in a Strange Land" -- in the book, it expresses an almost infinite patience, an almost infinite acceptance of the fact that things happen in their own time. It is the complete opposite of what is routinely seen in the forums: an almost infinite rejection of any kind of delay, or any perceived flaw. You can see it in nearly every thread. When someone suggests not beating on the "update project" button, someone always takes exception. Whenever a discussion starts on improvements to the credit system, someone objects because they might less credit (even if it's more accurate). ... and when someone mentions that they've donated, and the green star doesn't appear immediately, it seems to be viewed as a failure. Even when the green star was properly set, but on the wrong account because they used the wrong E-Mail address. Yep, that's me. Some of the problems are due to the fact that the project is short on manpower, and I'd like to suggest that is exactly why we should be donating. When you think about it, the amount of work being done per dollar (yen, euro, whatever) is dramatically high -- and all of the money we donate goes to staff, bandwidth, hardware and facilities. None of it is wasted on Marketing or PR. 2.4 million computers for $110,000 per year. Astounding. Imagine what they could do if we all kicked in $10. |

... When you think about it, the amount of work being done per dollar (yen, euro, whatever) is dramatically low... I think you mean that the amount of work per dollar is remarkably high?? At least, that's my perception. F. |
