Message 1005591 - Posted: 18 Jun 2010, 6:48:58 UTC - in response to Message 1005585.

A little bit of good news for my kitty loving friends.
You all know that Lori and I still miss our beloved Oscar.
And her dear Callie gurl is requiring sub-q fluids to keep her going and is getting rather frail. So the writing is on the wall there.

But Lori just got 2 new absolutely adorable purebred Maine Coon kittens....smoke and black and lovable all over. 2 brothers, about 4-1/2 months old. And growing like you would not believe. They came home only a week ago, and both Callie and Starbucks seem to have accepted them very well.

A couple of little rays of kitty sunshine for both of us.

Meow meow.

Sorry to hear about Callie... my sympathies to you and Lori. I have experienced the departure of cats too often.

But - great to hear about the two new MC kitties! Are they only available in the USA? I'm always open to a 4th cat...

Do they have names? And can we have some pictures??? Nothing is more adorable than the sight of a young kitten!

I will work on some pics.....I took a few last Sunday when they came home, my camera is still over at Lori's place. Should get some more shots this weekend.

Right now, the more laid back one is named Leo (Leonardo the Lion) and his more adventurous brother is named Ty (Tiberius, as in James T. Kirk).

I am sure they are being bred outside of the USA...but as to whether they are available in New Zeeland, I cannot say.

EDIT...just as a side note......
These are the first kitties that Lori has ever bought from a cattery. And she was a little undecided at first, having been committed to saving shadow kitties for all these years. But we both loved Oscar sooooooo much, who was a rescue that was predominantly Maine Coon, that she just had to have some more of that special breed of kitty in her life.

Very Interesting...

Grace is really a mostly BLACK Cat with some white fur, I'd seen Black as I'd stroked Her fur only briefly, But a picture will be forthcoming soon.

Grace

Grace doesn't quite know how to use a scratching post, yet, But I'm giving Her praise as I pull Her front feet across the post in a downward motion and telling Her No when It comes to other things like My sofa and My Pants, I found out that She'd already been fixed at some other time, So Grace may have either run away or been abandoned at one time before going to the Shelter in Apple Valley.

Here's another for Your pleasure...

Grace eating Her dinner, Friskies Turkey & Cheese, right now Grace is in My swivel recliner, She's getting used to Her name and will come when called. Grace still wants to use the end of the sofa as a post, I'm working on It. She really likes My recliner, takes to It like She has been here all Her life.

I have My own lookout and sentry in the Window... :D

Grace jumped up on the scratching post(bottom left) and got into the window all on Her own, In fact She's done this several times, If It makes Her happy, I'm not going to worry any. :) All Grace needs is a Racing stripe down Her back. ;)

Another kitty story......

Last Saturday night, Lori and I came home rather later from a shopping trip and when she pulled into the driveway, she saw something on her front porch.
It turned out to be a kitty. Scared as could be.....meowing ceaselessly.
After an hour or more, kitty was coaxed into the garage, where she ended up living for the week.

This was a wonderful kitty....maybe a year old. And when it finally got over it's fear, it cuddled and cooed and reveled in attention like you would not believe it.

We spent a few hours last Sunday hitting the streets and knocking on doors within a 3 block range of her house.....all to no avail. I contacted the town hall and the nearest pet rescue shelter, as well as my favorite kitty shelter.
I also posted on craigslist and checked the local paper's lost and found.

I got no less than 10 responses from people looking for their dearly beloved lost kitties.......none of which was our wayward kitty.

I fell in love with kitty. After she got over her fear of us, she started wanting to follow us into the house from the garage. I thought that I might have to take it in.

Well.........

Kitty has a new home now. One of Lori's co-workers had a daughter that had to put her kitty down a while ago, and had an open spot and an open heart. She and her boyfriend came over to see our lost one, and fell in love with her in short order.

God sent kitty to the right front porch that night.

Sometimes the connections have to be just right, looks like the co-workers daughter had the right polarity, kind of magnetic Ya might say.

Well, this kitty had it's own majik.

I can't imagine why anybody would abandon it.
But it appears that is what happened.

It took me just minutes to fall in love with him/her...we still are not sure.

I kinda miss kitty, but am very happy with the outcome. This was a beautiful creature....I swore that it would never go to a shelter.

Kitty has a new home.

I think Grace was abandoned before She was at the shelter, As the vet at the animal hospital said they'd discovered that Grace was already fixed( know, spayed), But Grace is slowly turning into a house cat, fluffy tail and all.

Bless you, and all that have taken up the gauntlet of caring for the shadow kitties.

The responses I got from folks looking for their lost kitties was heartbreaking.

If I had a couple of thousand dollars, I would start up the 'Lost Kitty Network'.......

There should be a central point where people could post about kitties gone lost.

Somewhere that all kitty folk would know to go if the had to search for their kitty 'gone wild'.

I would be happy to sit here and monitor such board, if only I could.

Somebody should.

Meow.

Try starting here Mark.. http://www.alleycat.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=191 It's called "alley cat allies" and should give you all kinds of information about services around the country.

PS: Anytime you find a lost kitty, you can post a picture of it at your local shelter. That is usually one of the first places to look for a lost pet.
