What was different about it? Was it a analouge prog? How funktioned the power graphs in comparission to the later versions? example: to right - up by increasing power while / with scaling green / yellow / red.

As far as I know, the screen saver graphs were exactly the same. The only change from SETI Classic to BOINC-SETI is the fact that the screen saver is now written in OpenGL for easier porting across platforms. The science itself hasn't changed between the two platforms.

i still have the original installers i downloaded.

setiathome_win_1_0.exe from may 13, 1999 was the first one i used. there wasn't any difference in the way the graphs looked. it only ran as a screen saver though, so you couldn't really look at it while it was running. you had to wait for the screen saver to kick in, or force it to manually. when you moved the mouse, it stopped.

setiathome_win_3_07.exe from march 17 2003 was the last one i installed before i got a new computer. i never got around to installing seti again until recently. i was surprised at how similar the graphs looked, but the new bionic system gives WAY more information and control over how and what is running than the original applications.

Thats very cool that you still have a copy of the original SETI@home program.

Its like a piece of archaeology at this stage. You could go to antiques road shows and antique shops and show them the piece of historic software you have...LOL

From what I remember is that the old SETI didn't use graphic card to generate the plots but CPU so if someone forgot to close the plot's window it took loooonger to calculate WU. I think there's info about the differences on the website.

Correct. The graphics were generated by the CPU. So if the screensaver was running that cut into the available CPU resources available to crunch the workunits.
