Sorry this question was probably mentioned alot before, but too many questions to go through. SETI screen saver works good on my pc, but when i try to get back to windows, it just freezes up. Have to restart my computer every time. In preferences i put it at 50% of cpu but that didn't work....any ideas?

Which version of BOINC are you using? There have been several recent fixes in this area.

So what's your videocard?
Which drivers do you use for this videocard?
Which DirectX version?

If an Nvidia videocard, are you using the GPU crunch option here at Seti? When yes, don't run a screen saver as well as your GPU is quite busy with the calculations. See my CUDA FAQ for more on that, link in my signature.

Else, have you ever cleaned up the inside of the PC? Dust can cause heat, while heat can cause freezes and lock-ups.

My video card is a VisionTek Radeon 9250 PCI, and the driver is ATI Version 8.241.0.0. Turns out i didn't have the latest version of DirectX so i just downloaded it. Let me see if this works before i dig into the indepth alternative.

I know on a couple of my machines the screen saver won't exit properly either. I have given up looking for a solution (I have a theory about why it doesn't work on my main machine), so I've resorted to not using the screen saver even though I really enjoy watching it on my screen.

Well one of those weird things. My computer was down a few days, turned out to be my cpu battery. Got it replaced, and now my computer doesn't freeze up when i go back to Windows.....Thanks for all the input though.
