Message 928707 - Posted: 26 Aug 2009, 4:27:39 UTC

This is the message I get when work is 100% completed, even though it says "Allow new tasks" on left of BOINC manager screen. I was using seti@home some years ages ago (before BOINC) and never had any trouble but I don't understand what it's doing here. I only started again a few days ago and decided to try milkyway@home too, but then when I had problems took it off.

I've copied the messages if it's any help: 8/26/2009 7:12:17 AM Starting BOINC client version 6.6.36 for windows_intelx86

I did manage to get some work uploaded a couple of days ago but have no idea how!
Can anyone please help without getting too technical? otherwise I'll have to give up.
Thanks.

Message 928740 - Posted: 26 Aug 2009, 7:37:58 UTC - in response to Message 928707.

This is the message I get when work is 100% completed, even though it says "Allow new tasks" on left of BOINC manager screen.

That's exactly your problem: the button shows what you get when you press it. If you look at the Status column in the Projects tab, you'll see "Won't get new tasks" - and that is exactly what you get.

So, press "Allow new tasks" and all will be fine.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Do you allow the computer to run while you are not active? Do you allow BOINC to process while you are active? Do you allow BOINC access to the network? Please check both your online settings and your local settings.

What exactly is your problem? You had downloaded 12 tasks but then detached from SETI. Now you have 3 new tasks downloaded. Do they work? What does the Status field in the Tasks tab of BOINC manager tell (in advanced view)?

Gundolf

The button says what the state will be after the button is pushed. If the button says allow new tasks, that means that new tasks will be allowed after the button is pushed.

Welcome to Seti.
Unfortunately you joined at a time when the project has run out of new work. New data is on the way and should be available within a day or so. Just be patient let Boinc run and it will get work as soon as it is available. In the mean time you may want to check out the other Boinc based projects that you could join as a backup project. A short partial list can be reviewed at Choosing BOINC projects

Message 933887 - Posted: 16 Sep 2009, 23:48:29 UTC

Messages keep telling me that Boinic needs 32 mb and that I've got 0.00 mb allocated. In fact I have 200 gb allocated. Also says I need an NVIDIA card, which is a new requirement and not going to happen.

I've had no problems up until the most recent project finished. What's up please?

There are 3 settings for disk usage and 2 for memory usage. Please review them all and make certain that NONE of them limit your usage of BOINC too drastically.

These are the settings I have for the Disk and Memory Usage settings:

Use at most 100 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.001 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use at most 75% of page file (swap space)
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8+ 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8+ 90% of memory when computer is not in use

It's not a requirement. BOINC 6.6 just has a separate GPU scheduler. It'll run for 24 hours, with continuous ever growing back-offs, then it will do that only once a day.

If you set "Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available" to No (uncheck the option) in the project preferences, it won't bother you.

Can you please check your BOINC Data directory to see if you have a global_prefs_override.xml file?

If you do have that file, then go BOINC Manager->Advanced View->Advanced->Preferences->Clear. This will clear the local preferences which will override the website preferences. The website preferences will then kick back in to use.

If in doubt, please post your BOINC start-up messages.

I'm not sure if the problem is (lack of) disk space or system memory. So, check your Messages tab for lines like mine:
15/09/2009 11:37:56||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 444.98MB
15/09/2009 11:37:56||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 444.98MB
15/09/2009 11:37:56||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.86GB
copy them here if you aren't sure.
