Hi, I have been unable to get Boinc to download GPU Work Units for my 2 cards and due to the fact that I have set Rosetta to run at 99% and Seti to run at 1% (since the cards are so fast Seti was running away on it's credit score, which seemed a bit unfair) I figured that was the problem so I increased Seti to 10 but still no joy. I then tried 100 making them around even. I then tried ticking all the different types of work available ie, Seti Enhanced, Astropulse and Astropulse V5 but still no work is coming down. I checked the servers and some are disabled but I don't know if they are the ones responsible for sending out GPU Work Units, so at the moment I have 2 GPU's doing nothing at the moment and it's a bit annoying. Anyone know why this is happening?

On the server side, there is no difference between CPU and GPU tasks.

Probably it's the version of your BOINC client that makes scheduling problems. As a workaround, you could temporarily set
Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available yes
Use Central Processing Unit (CPU) no
in your SETI@home preferences and see what happens.

Gruß,
Gundolf

Ok tried that and got the following on the messages tab...

24/08/2009 13:24:55 SETI@home update requested by user
24/08/2009 13:24:57 SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
24/08/2009 13:24:57 SETI@home Not reporting or requesting tasks
24/08/2009 13:25:02 SETI@home Scheduler request completed

I'm guessing it thinks that I have too much work already due to the work for the CPU I have for Rosetta but it shouldn't think like that.

Then you have to increase your cache or reset long term debt. See <zero_debts> at the BOINC Wiki.

Perhaps there's also a count-down timer of 24 hours running for downloading GPU tasks; I've read about that somewhere.

Ah, I found in a different location on that page what to do but I don't have a folder called Data. So I shall drop it into the Boinc folder and move it about till it clicks.

Holly cow it worked!!!. That's the first time I did anything with an XML file lol.
I opened Notepad and put in the following...

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<zero_debts>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Saved it as cc_config.xml in the main Boinc folder, which it refused to let me do (probably because Boinc was still on) so I saved it to the My Documents folder instead and moved it to the Boinc folder from the My Documents folder and rebooted the machine and it came back on and started downloading GPU Work Units.
Now I am wondering if leaving that file in there will keep it at Zero Debt between the two projects or will that xml file be updated somehow from boinc when the GPU pulls away from CPU work loads again?

Thanks so much Jahn that was a great idea.

sorry to stupidly barge in here but i have never heard of the term 'debt' with seti before. is this something that only is active when running multiple projects? if not then i am not aware of its function at all. i run seti only.

Yes, "debt" is only meaningful when running more than one project. For more information, see the BOINC FAQ Service.

The folder isn't called "data", it is the BOINC data folder. You find the path in the Messages tab after a restart:

Fine, but I doubt that it has to to with the cc_config.xml file...

I opened Notepad and put in the following...

because that's the wrong partition. It should look like
<cc_config>
    <options>
        <zero_debts>1</zero_debts>
    </options>
</cc_config>

Now I am wondering if leaving that file in there will keep it at Zero Debt between the two projects or will that xml file be updated somehow from boinc when the GPU pulls away from CPU work loads again?

Yes, it will reset the debts with each restart, if you correct the syntax.

Thanks so much Jahn that was a great idea.

You're welcome, but my first name is "Gundolf" :-)

OK Gundulf, I retyped the xml file so it shouldn't happen again that seti runs out of work and placed it in the folder BOINC. Thanks once again for your help.
