Hi,

I have been struggling with what I believe has been descibed as the'EDF' problem.

Win XP64
Boinc 6.3.36
Nvidia driver 190.38
Boinc install via Lunatics V2 running VLAR kill
Boinc set to only run Cuda units
Asus W6T6 Revolution
3 x XFX GTX295 watercooled

My setup runs fine when the cache is static but during new downloads the system goes crazy 'nibbling' at random units and then jumping to others in quick succession leaving them marked as 'waiting to run'.

Compounding this is that even though Boinc is not set to retain work units in memory it still does so, eventually retaining 20/30/40 or so units in memory and working through subsequent units and marking them as Computation Errors. This can extend through the whole cache until I intervene often needing to kill each process through task manager.

I have been switching around through Boinc versions and have found some respite with 6.6.37 which still has to 'nibble' at every work unit in sight, to be precise 520 units in my cache are 'waiting to run' at anywhere from 1-99% complete. The good news though is they are not retained in memory and normal computation follows on subsequent units.

Is this about the best I can expect at the moment or is there a more permanent fix?

Cheers, Simon.

6.6.37?

Hi,

Followed a link from a post on these forums (sorry cannot remember which) to beta releases for Boinc 6.6.37 & 6.6.38 and thought they couldn't be worse than the present version 6.6.36 which I have unfortunately mis-typed as 6.3.36 in my original post.

Cheers, Simon.

If you let run only CUDA and no CPU tasks, you can use BOINC V6.4.7 like the top_hosts_#1 - 3..

They are pure GPU cruncher.

You see this also, that they don't display the nVIDIA_driver. Sometimes 'funny/crazy' driver versions.. ;-)

BOINC V6.4.7 don't go in crazy EDF mode and support higher WU cache.
