what's with the software? The manager never connects to the client - can't add accounts - tried the command line and it won't download work units for seti tried a few of the faq - or how to's without luck. I was going to use seti to "burn" in my new computer over the weekend - but after 5+ hours I un-installed the software. There needs to be better how to sections etc. |

Fedora 11 has its firewall enabled by default. Make sure you've either allowed boinc/seti through the firewall or disable the firewall altogether. |

Did you do this: ln -s /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg /home/username/gui_rpc_auth.cfgfrom official BOINC guide: Installing BOINC on Fedora Or this generic unix guide is also useful. The above step isn't mentioned, but should still be done. |

The firewall was turned off one of the first things I do -- but I would say the manager vs the client had issues - that is why I punted and tried the command line interface. That resulted -- or should I say - did not result in any processing of seti data. No error messages to indicate -- hay please fix me.... |

what's with the software? The commandline interface only can download tasks if you first attach to a project, if with manager or without. Did you try boinccmd --project_attach http://setiathome.berkeley.edu <key>with <key> being the account key from Your account? Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Did you download the client .sh file from Berkeley, or did you install BOINC via Yum/RPM? If you installed via Yum, then all you have to do is set your gui_rpc_auth.cfg file, set boinc to run at startup, and then you can manage everything normally through the BOINC Manager. |
