Hi all...

I've dragged through the internet looking for an answer to my problem and I can't find it anywhere.

I have FreeNAS for my file server and I thought I'd whack Seti on it.

Installed BOINC, it runs no problems.
I grabbed a FreeBSD port of Seti@home 5.12 and it won't run for the following reason:

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libpthread.so.1" not found, required by "setiathome-5.12.i386-unknown-freebsd"

I found this thread:

Which indicates to create a link to a directory but in FreeNAS, libpthread.so.1 doesn't exist, or at least, I can't find it (locate doesn't work either).

Does anyone have any tips or help? (Hoping Dotsch sees this).

FreeNAS is a very slimmed down version of FreeBSD for a specific purpose. I tried what you are now trying a year or so ago, but never succeeded to get it working. What I ended up doing was somewhat the opposite: Install FreeBSD and copy some files from FreeNAS to it, so I got FreeNAS functions but still could do all "normal" FreeBSD things, including BOINC and SETI@home, Einstein@home, etc...

However, I no longer have that running. When I get more free time, I'll give FreeBSD another shot. I like it a lot, but the learning curve is very, very steep. Playing with FreeBSD, made my switch to Linux from Windows very easy ;)

Edit: Remembered something I had to do with some of those: If you can find any 'libpthread.so' or 'libpthread.so.x' (where x is a number), you should be able to make a symbolic link from libpthread.so.1 to that one and it may work.

Well, after a little bit of time I have another question...

With the boinc preferences, the option: Suspend work while computer is in use?

Does anyone know the specific definition of when a computer is in use?

My FreeNAS machine is a single core machine that acts as a file server. When SETI is crunching at 100%, I cannot transfer files to or from the server. It seems that SMB requires a fair whack of CPU to be able to function properly.

If I set the Suspend work while computer is in use? setting to yes, will seti suspend when SMB fires up or is it triggered by a UI interface (keyboard/mouse)?

Probably not, since "in use" means using of keyboard or mouse.
