There are server problems, so work unit production is very low. Check out the Number Crunching Forum, you will find a Thread named 'Panic Mode On (23) Server problems'. Also you can check the Server Status Page.

That is no error message, it simply tells you that there is no work available at SETI for now. No problem at your side.

You can wait until the server problems are solved (today is the weekly outage scheduled) and/or you can attach to other projects, so that your computer can crunch while waiting for SETI.

Gruß,
Gundolf

I think we have hit it. This computer has run out of tasks. For some reason, it is only a dual core, it never seems to load up with the 5 days of tasks, my default, that the other computers that I run do. Plenty to do on the quad core.

I'm also crunching for Einstein@home. They are looking for gravitational waves and for binary pulsars.

You can also look at Choosing BOINC projects. When you hover the mouse pointer over the project name, a short description pops up.

...and also when will the SETI server have jobs? because ive been here waiting for awhile now and still no jobs are available? =)

That's difficult to say. In a few hours, they will shut down the servers for maintenance. That lasts usually for 4 to 5 hours, but then everybody is asking for new work and you'll have probably to wait for a few more hours, if all goes well...

Gruß,
Gundolf

Make sure to check out the project websites before attaching. Some of the listed projects are no longer active or only supply work sporadically.

~ one hour work on my GPU cruncher and then he will idle.. [3 day cache]

Perfect.. then we have the weekly maintenance.

So maybe tomorrow (MEST) I will get new work?

I have a number of machines sitting idle, however I don;t know how to tell if it is a local issue or there are no work units to process. I looked at the server status, but I don't know which stat tells me if SETI is kaput.

There doesn't appear to be any available right now.

Ah ha. Splains why my big server power requirements dropped by 250 watts.

I noticed late last night/early this morning (depends on how you want to count it.. 5:30am EDT (utc-4), that my two Windows crunchers both had 2-8 AP505's. Looked at the messages tab and after 20 work requests and getting told "there's nothing to assign..", they both got "you have selected to receive work for other applications. / sending work for astropulse_v505". That is typical. No panic there.

Then I looked at the server status. Looks like MB finally processed through tapes faster than AP. Finally. There's only two tapes left, presently, for MB to chew through. AP has at least 6 or 7.

Hopefully this will be just what we needed for the 5.06 Linux app to be promoted from beta to public.

I have lots of MB's to last me a few days...just no cudas...I have already started crunching on another project on my AMD and in a couple of hours I will have to do the same on my quad. The worst part is I have a new quad coming online tomorrow and hope that there will be WU's to be had. I have the fingers crossed. We have been here before and the boys at Berkeley bail us out everytime.

and btw those 2 MB tapes that are running now have been in there for ages so I think those are dead.

beta has about 100,000 wu's ready to send, last time i checked. GPUGRID had some troubles yesterday, they ran out of work and i grabbed about 40 wu's last night from beta.

I recommend Secunia PSI: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
Go Georgia Tech.

You might consider running other projects for times when SETI cannot supply work.
You could set SETI = 80%, and 2 other projects 10% each (for example).
When SETI work is unavailable, your machine(s) will keep running other projects, and when SETI comes back, BOINC scheduler will attempt to run enough SETI work to get back to the 80:10:10 ratio.

IMO. current BOINC software has made it pretty easy to attach to projects.

Why aren't the MB splitters running? According to the server status page, there are 26 channels of stuff to split (or am I reading that wrong?).

The 2 tapes in green...

04ap08ab 49.69 GB (done)
05mr09af 8.78 GB (1)
23au08af 50.20 GB (done)
23mr08ab 40.66 GB (done)
24mr08ae 50.20 GB (done)
27fe08ac 50.07 GB (1)
total available channels on disk: 28

which have 14 channels each seem to be dead in the water so basically no MB's are being split right now. Have patience I am sure they are working on the problem or it may just be a shortage of tapes from Arecibo.
