I have a Dell Latitude D630 with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz dual core processor and an NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 135M GPU. The adapter tab in display properties shows the NVIDIA GPU has 256 MB of memory. Device properties on the NVIDIA adapter says it is using NVIDIA driver 6.14.11.7968 dated 3/11/2009. This configuration was running SETI on BOINC and using the GPU for processing before I encountered corruption in my login profile causing a shutdown problem. To correct the problem my tech re-imaged my computer with Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3 and blew away my old profile. I believe I was running the same windows configuration before the problem, but can't be certain. Now everything is running nornal again. After reinstalling BOINC and connecting to SETI the GPU is recognized but its memory is reported by BOINC as only 128MB. This seems to be an error in BOINC to me. I understand the memory memory needed is 256MB which my GPU has. SETI then gives the message, "Message from Server: Can't use CUDA app for SETI@home Enhanced: Your CUDA device has insufficient memory." Can anyone explain why I could run on the GPU before my computer was re-imaged and now I can't because of apparently incorrectly reported insufficient memory? Does anyone have a solution? |

Is the video memory size adjustable via the BIOS? Perhaps you need to increase the dedicated video memory parameters. |

You should also try and update the Graphic drivers from 179.68, if any is available. Claggy |

I believe the requiement for 256MB refers to hardware memory installed on the NVIDIA Video card and is not shared or adjustable. |

I have tried to upgrade the driver from the NVIDIA web site twice and have had different adverse affects on my systems video presentation making the system unusable until rolled back. Maybe, but not likely, the update got corrupted in download each time as the symptoms were different each time. Is there a driver version for my GPU/Video that is tested to work with BIONC? |

Can you download the latest copy of GPU-Z and tell us how much video memory is identified by the program? |

The GPU-Z report says 128MB. Here is a report from the NVIDIA control panel that probably explains the issue. It shows 256MB with 128MB dedicated, whatever that means. Honestly I'm not sure how it ever worked before, but it shouldn't have. With only 128MB of actual video RAM, that falls short of the 256MB requirement. The other 128MB can be borrowed from system RAM for additional textures, but this RAM is not used by the CUDA client. nVidia programmed the CUDA app to only use dedicated video memory only. |

Maybe it never did work before, but I had never seen the red server messages that address insufficient CUDA memory. Has this message always been sent or was it recently added? |

I honestly couldn't tell you as I don't use CUDA, so any related messages within BOINC are not seen by me on any version of BOINC that I use. |
