Try again (untill success)with an earlier client that works on your machine without lockups. Only when ready to send results, switch to 4.12. I hope it will work for you |

I simply uninstalled the old client and installed the new client from fresh. Worked fine for me. Ned *** My Guide to Compiling Optimised BOINC and SETI Clients *** *** Download Optimised BOINC and SETI Clients for Linux Here *** |

Well I just tryed upgrading to 4.12 BOINC client. Well it crashed my XP Pro machine and i could not do anything except power the computer off. The boinc_gui.exe was running CPU at 97% and the setiathome_4.05_windows_intelx86.exe was running CPU at 00% after reboot. Cause of this i have uninstalled BOINC 4.12 client and gone back to BOINC client 4.09. If Berkeley are going to keep bring out crap software upgrades, I am just going to take all my computers here off line and uninstall BOINC software and not have anything else to do with SETI@home. Like the old saying goes "if it not broke why play around with it" Cheers Quail |

I did install 4.12 on two of my three systems but the third one locks up not responding right after the benchmark with a 50% usage for the gui. |

Like the old saying goes "if it > not broke why play around with it" > It was "broke"; results were being lost or rejected during upload. I'd rather find out when launching the program it didn't work right than wait until after 24 or so hours or WUs are completed, then lose everything trying to upload them for credit. If this troubles you, you can always run ANOTHER BOINC-based project... Stewie: So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway? Maybe I missed something but that is all I know to do with the service. |

I try to run on WIN98SE, WIN2000SP4, WIN XP SP1, on different AMD and Intel machines. 8 in total, then I gave up. CC 4.12 didn't work on any and I stopped trying on the rest of the fleet. CC freezes soon after speed test and it behaves similarly than CC 4.05 on WIN98, just this time on all WIN OSes. As upload failures, I tried all versions from CC 4.05 too CC 4.11 . They randomly experienced upload failures on different dates of WUWUs, so my believe is, that some changes were made on server side that causes upload failures. CPDN and LHC are not affected, regadless of CC 4.xx version. I hope Berkeley will soon fix this mess. |

Boinc 4.12 has been working great for me the last two days. Not one problem with the update, no data loss, and uploads an downloads are working and being credited for all three projects that I'm attached to. Using AMD2500+ and Win98se. I think some of you people that are having problems should closely check out the configuration of your own systems to make sure you have all your software and hardware updates done. 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |

I just finished a complete uninstall of 4.09 and reinstall with 4.12, and it still just freezes after doiwnloading a couple of WU. I have tried since last night with two of my boxes and my laptop, and 4.12 freezes on all three of them. I use Windows 2000. 4.09 works fine for me and I have never had any trouble with it. I hope that the new upgrade isn't a sign of future builds! Why Berkeley insisted that all BOINC'ers upgrade to this build, I do not know. And I see that I am not the only one who has had problems with 4.12. I upgraded to 4.12 on 4 machines... P4 2.4Ghz running XP SP2 Athlon XP 2400+ running XP SP2 Athlon XP 2800+ running XP SP2 P2 300 Mhz running Win 2000 SP4 ... After upgrade, the work appeared to hang up. I just stopped and restarted BOINC and everything has worked fine since. |

see this thread http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=5529 It's saying pretty much the same thing as in this thread but someone has found a work around. It may or may not help. I haven't had any problems with V4.12CC myself. good luck to you all. |

What is beta testing (for Boinc)? Ok, there is a group of developers at Berkeley. They find what they think is a bug or necessary upgrade. They apply the fixes, and create a new "branch" of the source code. They then compile it for the 4 clients that they provide installers for. (Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris) They then run them on SOME test machines in-house with a known test Work Unit. They know what the results should be from any client for that WU. If the test passes, they then release it to the Alpha or Beta testing community (yea I know, you all think you are). If test community don't give the thumbs down it then becomes a public release client. Note, that I say they don't. If some people in the volunteer community are away on vacation, etc. and they are the only ones who have Computer X with O/S Y, results from that system won't be reported to developers. How many configurations are there...you ask. With my simple lists below it would have to be a minimum of 160 different machines in the beta community...just for Intel/AMD CPUs. Different Operating Systems, Different CPUs...<B>And the operating systems must have NO CORRUPTIONS...error free Registry files...no pesky spybots infesting the system...etc.[/b] For (Intel/AMD) there need to be test machines running each of these Operating systems: Win 98se Win ME Win 2000 Win 2000 Server Win 2003 Server Win XP Linux [version].[version] Linux [version].[version] Linux [version].[version] Linux [version].[version] PROCESSORS: AMD K6 AMD Athlon AMD Duron AMD Athlon XP AMD Athlon 64 AMD Athlon MP Pentium 2 Pentium 2 Celeron Pentium 2 Zeon Pentium 3 Pentium 3 Celeron Pentium 3 Zeon Pentium 4 Pentium 4 HT Intel Iridium Intel Iridium II For OS/X Mac: G3 G4 G5 Solaris: UltraSparc II |

Solution: 4.12 lockup (bump if it works for you) This solution worked great for me. I had installed v4.12 on two of my three computers without any problems but the third was locking up no matter what I tried. The other two systems were set to work with the 60 min peramiter for 'Switch between applications every' but the third was set to home with a blank min peramiter. Thanks for the fix. ----------<br> <img src=\"http://boinc.mundayweb.com/seti2/stats.php?userID=924&trans=off\"><br> <a href=\"http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/team_join_form.php?id=30199\">Join</a> the <a href=\"http://ocforums.com\">Overclockers.com</a> SETI Team! |

I agree with you here, although I have no adware, spyware, Trojans, worms, virii, or any other malware on my computer. BUT >>> all three of my computers also have Seventeen or Bust installed on them, and Seti classic (I do not run Seti BOINC and Seti I together!). Each and every one of us run different software on our computers, our registries are configured differently, as are our general system configs. Berkeley cannot insure that each new build will be compatible with any computer (even the proper OS) owned by us. Plus we here at home running Berkeley's software do not like to have to spend countless hours trying to configure Berkeley's software to their computers (I know that I don't) for we have real lives too outside of this project! Jammy p.s. I run three AMD XP's and a 1.33 T-Bird > What is beta testing (for Boinc)? > Different Operating Systems, Different CPUs...<B>And the operating systems > must have NO CORRUPTIONS...error free Registry files...no pesky spybots > infesting the system...etc.[/b] Team SETI.USA |
