Hi! Who knows what this means? Look at my log: --- - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Starting BOINC client version 3.07 for windows_intelx86 BOINC Beta Test - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults BOINC Beta Test - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Host ID is 116242 SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Host ID is 2037 --- - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - General prefs: from BOINC Beta Test (last modified 2004-06-13 03:13:46) --- - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - General prefs: using separate prefs for home SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:39 - Restarting computation for result 11se03aa.18688.1170.804838.244_2 using setiathome version 3.07 SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:40 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:51 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded --- - 2004-06-13 03:39:51 - General prefs: from BOINC Beta Test (last modified 2004-06-13 03:13:46) --- - 2004-06-13 03:39:51 - General prefs: using your defaults SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:51 - Project prefs: using your defaults SETI@home - 2004-06-13 03:39:51 - Starting computation for result 11se03aa.18688.1120.90902.110_0 using setiathome version 3.07 In my general preferences "Max CPUs" is "2", but in general Prefs for Home "Max CPUs" is "1". As you can see, BOINC CC was started with using general Prefs for Home, where max CPUs=1 but after connection with SETI@Home's sheduler CC begun to use of default general Prefs with 2 max CPUs. It starts crunch a new WU. What happened? Can you help me? Thanks. [Edit] In addition to above ----- That was not first connection to SETI@Home sheduler server. I saw a few times at that point. I saw specially general preferences for 2 projects, BOINC Beta Test(ap) and BOINC SETI@Home(sah). (Project prefs are default for this two projects). In both projects there are equal parameters between them, for default prefs and for home prefs (I haven't prefs for work and school). Steps I do: 1. a) In default general prefs for BOINC BetaTest Project I change Max CPUs to 2, then save changes. b) In home general prefs for BetaTest Proj I change Max CPUs to 1, then save changes. 2. In BOINC Core Client I click Update for BetaTest Proj. CC communicates with BetaTest sheduler and updates general prefs. (In log there are lines: General prefs: from BOINC Beta Test (last modified 2004-06-13 03:13:46) General prefs: using separate prefs for home) 3. Then in CC I click Update for SETI@Home Proj. CC communicates with SETI@Home sheduler and updates general prefs. (In log there are lines: General prefs: from BOINC Beta Test (last modified 2004-06-13 03:13:46) General prefs: using your defaults) That's all!!! CC uses two CPUs instead of one. But i want use one CPU!!! I cant understand why BOINC uses default general prefs although I set up Home general prefs, and that home prefs exists in both projects. May be I'm incorrect somewhere? Hmmm, I think there is problem in S@H project with different preferences. In all cases CC downloads default general preferences. You may need to update from the second project twice. Once to get the info up to the site, and again to get them back down. jm7 |

Reducing the number of CPUs has to wait until the workunit running in the extra slot(s) is finished. It may have to wait until all active work is finished. John Keck testing BOINC since 2002/12/08 |

My question was when I update i.e. BOINC Beta Test CC downloads separate preferences for home: --- - 2004-06-23 20:58:29 - General prefs: using separate prefs for home But when I update S@H after that CC downloads default general prefs: --- - 2004-06-23 21:00:17 - General prefs: using your defaults Ummmm. It seems, I have understood, that happened. When project sheduler is unavailable CC uses default prefs. SAH was unavailable, and now P@H is unavailable, and this happened again for Predictor project. What do you think? I have the same problem as Nikolay, but I have only attached to one project (S@H). BOINC client is v.3.20. --- - 2004-07-15 21:41:53 - General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2004-07-12 17:09:27) --- - 2004-07-15 21:41:53 - General prefs: using separate prefs for home [bla-bla-bla computation started/finished messages] SETI@home - 2004-07-15 21:42:59 - Requesting 246131 seconds of work SETI@home - 2004-07-15 21:42:59 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi SETI@home - 2004-07-15 21:43:27 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded SETI@home - 2004-07-15 21:43:27 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults (HERE!!!!!) SETI@home - 2004-07-15 21:43:27 - Started download of xxxxxxxxxx. How come the client has forgotten my separate preferences for home? |

You have two sets of preferences. General which apply to all projects, and project which applies to this project. You have apparently set home properties for general prefs, but not for the project prefs. |

The names are quite confusing, could they be more specific, atleast in the log messages? For example, not "General" prefs, but BOINC prefs, and not "project" prefs, but SETI@Home prefs? Could save you lots of hassle. :) |

There are a couple of bugs with venue specific preferences. One that may be biting you in this instance is you have to go to each individual project and set the venue, otherwise BOINC will use the venue from the last project you contacted. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |
