Thanks in advance for help!

I'm running Ubuntu, Heron (8.04?) I was having trouble getting it installed and working, then I found this

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=21571

which got me through it pretty quickly with just a few minor tweaks.

Now, I know it is is running, because when I ps -a I see the bonic process and the set@home process. I know it is processing work, because I can see that my totals jumped via the BONIC manager on my Windows PC. I have also seen work results turned in from both boxes on my account page.

The issue I have now is that because I installed it the way I did, I can't administer it. In other words, I don't have a GUI that lets me do things. Right now, according to the BONIC manager on my Win box, I have a unit for SETI and a unit for Rosetta on the Ubuntu system that are done and waiting to be sent, and they aren't being sent. I don't know what the problem is. There are no error messages in the bonic.log file. So I need commands to find out what the problem is and possibly force the transfer.

You don't have to force anything, they'll be reported automatically.

If you can't set up BOINC manager on the ubuntu box (did you check access rights/group/owner settings?), you could try to control BOINC remotely from your windows box. You'll have to set up the remote_hosts.cfg file on the unix host and read the gui_rpc_auth.cfg from there (or change the password in it). See Controlling BOINC remotely in the BOINC wiki for more information.

Gruß,
Gundolf

I understand they are supposed to report automatically. The concern I have is that even though the box is always on, and has an always on LAN connection, the finished units have been sitting there for quite a few hours now, so they aren't being sent. This is despite a couple of reboots too.

As for the BONIC manager - I got everything up and running via the directions at the above referenced forum thread - there is nothing in there about getting the GUI part up. I went that route because simply installing the package normally didn't work.

I can't help you with unix, but did you try the remote controlling from windows?

Ok, remote access via GUI from Windows to Ubuntu is working great. Thanks for the pointers! Now, if I could just get someone over the the Ubuntu forums to explain why my mouse keeps dying.....
