NEWSFLASH:

I have discovered, purely by accident, that, at least for my GTX 295 running under Vista x64, SLI no longer has to be disabled for Boinc to be able to see and use BOTH GPU's.

I have been using the hack of switching SLI mode on to limit crunching to one GPU to control temperatures. With the 190.38 drivers this no longer works.

I have not tested whether the desktop still need to be extended onto a second monitor but I would surmise that if PhysX is enabled then that should not be necessary either.

Unfortunately, after 6 months of constant use, one of the GPU's in my 295 has just developed a memory error so I can't do any further testing on this until it is replaced (fingers crossed).

How often do people read release notes before installing something?
Unsually they only get read after the installation breaks something (and they've tried everything else).

Reading the release notes BEFORE you install something new is an absolute must! Unfortunately, most people like to learn things the hard way...it may not happen often but, when it does, a bad upgrade can really mess things up...

It was in the sure and certain knowledge that there are people who don't read Release Notes, and after proving to myself that what was claimed in the Release Notes is, in fact, valid that I opened this thread.

It was also to inform others who regularly offer advice here but who may not run CUDA and therefore have had no reason to consult the Release Notes that the rules have now changed.

There is an unconfirmed report (over on GPUgrid) that if one wu dies while in SLI mode it takes the 2nd wu with it. You might be safer leaving it turned off while crunching.

I leave it turned off anyway as the second GPU is used to drive my HDMI TV. But a useful tip for those who use SLI mode for gaming.
